Summary

APokemonfan has shared their depiction of what Alolan Cubone could look like with the game’s community. The altered take on the iconic Gen 1 Pokemon seems to be a hit with fellowPokemonfans.

As avidPokemonfans will remember,Alolan Marowakwas introduced inPokemon Sun and Moon. The game added Alola variants for several Pokemon, giving them a unique look that sets them apart from their standard versions, as they developed in an environment isolated from the mainland. However, while Marowak can get an Alola version, Cubone remained the same. Evolving a standard Cubone in Alola yields an Alolan Marowak, but Cubone itself looks the same as in any other game. This artist has shown what it would have been like if both evolutions had gotten a specialized version for the region.

Prolific fan artist MunchyKu has shared their rendition of an Alolan Cubone. The Alolan Cubone strongly resembles its evolved counterpart. Its bone club is wrapped in a green flame, and it has the same scar-like mark on its skull headpiece as Alolan Marowak. The horns on its skull look more blunted, and its overall color has become darkened, in keeping with its evolution’s island form. While MunchyKu’s Alolan Cubone has the armored-like belly that Alolan Marowak has, it retains the chubbier build of a Cubone. While the artist didn’t specify the typing, it’s likely that Alolan Cubone keeps the Fire/Ghost-type that its evolvedAlolan formhas.

Fans Wish Alolan Cubone Were Real

Pokemonfans have enthusiastically complimented MunchyKu on their design. Several mused that this was the Alolan CubonePokemonfans “deserved,” and that players were “robbed,” lamenting that the Pokemon only received aregional evolutionand not a base form. The overall cute appearance of Cubone given an Alolan twist seems to be a bit hit with fellow fans, who seem still hopeful that Game Freak may retroactively create an Alolan Cubone at some point in the future.

However, at this point in time, it seems unlikely for Game Freak to revisit Alolan Pokemon. The next entry in the franchise,Pokemon Legends: Z-A, is bringing back Mega Evolutions. While the game may include Alolan Pokemon either by discovering them in-game or porting them in from another title, it’s likely that Mega Evolutions will remain the focus of the title and be the only new real quirk Pokemon have. However, many fans are excited to seeMega Evolutions return, so chances are the fanbase will be pleased, even if Alolan Cubone remains a hopeful but unfulfilled wish.
