Because of this, Pokemon tend to stay in Gyms for short periods of time, especially when they are placed in more popular locations, making this Pokemon’s time at this Gym extra special.
Reddit user peetypiranha ran into a case where exactly the opposite happened. While playingPokemon GO, this user came across a Gym with a Samurott that had been defending it for 986 days, 12 hours, and 26 minutes. That’s around two years and 256 days -almost three years in total that the Pokemon has been at that Gym. ThePokemon GOplayer wanted to go on and reunite the Samurott with its trainer, presumably battling and defeating the Pokemon to send it back.

While it is exciting to finda Pokemon defending a Gym for many years, many users expressed their concern over the player defeating the Pokemon. Some wanted the Samurott to stay in the Gym for a little longer to round out the time to a nice 999 days or even 1000 days. Others discussed the reasoning for the Pokemon ruling the Gym for that long, contemplating the Gym’s location and if the Samurott was even forgotten about.
While Gyms are usually in high-traffic areas, it is not unheard of for one to be placed in the middle of nowhere. Even though this makes it difficult for trainers to consistently battle, players still find ways of getting there and leave theirPokemon to defend those Gyms for days on end. Regardless, it is still incredibly special to see a Pokemon that has been standing its ground for nearly three years, and players are left to wonder how long the next Pokemon will stay at thatPokemon GOGym.
