Summary
APokemon GOplayer surrendered a shiny Rayquaza by making a trade with their son. It’s a constant challenge forPokemon GOplayers to find shiny versions, since the odds of getting these creatures in Niantic’s game aren’t officially known. Meanwhile, to get Legendary versions,Pokemon GOplayers need to attend events and have the chance to capture some of the most powerful critters in the game.
Rayquaza, specifically, was seen for the first time in 2018 at Hoenn Celebration, the first edition of theannualPokemon GOeventfocused on the third generation of Pokemon. This event, specifically, marked the debut of a series of sky-themed Pokemon in addition to Rayquaza, such as Salamence, Metagross, and all the Castform variants. Rayquaza shiny, on the other hand, was added toPokemon GOin July of the following year, the same month in which other shinies were added, including Nidoran, Entei, and Mudkip. Getting a Rayquaza is not a simple task forPokemon GOplayers, so a parent decided to help their son.
Reddit user hmarlinbrando721 made a trade with their son and gave him a shiny Rayquaza. With the humorous caption “the things we do for our kids,” the player explains that their son hadn’t managed tocatch a Rayquaza, which prompted them to take action and trade to give the child a shiny Rayquaza with an impressive CP between 1979-2191. Their son, for his part, offered to trade a regular Kabuto with CP between 858-1018.

The Hoenn Legendary was recently the focus of players' attention with the announcement ofMega Rayquaza’s return toPokemon GOin the Elite Raids held in June. But the event was plagued by problems to the point that some trainers couldn’t even find raids to join. With that, Niantic announced a make-up event that took place on August 3 and allowedPokemon GOplayers an opportunity to battle Rayquaza once again.
Following Mega Rayquaza’s stint inPokemon GO, trainers will have other equally exciting activities to do this month. Among the highlights isAdventure Week 2024, an annualPokemon GOevent focused on fossil Pokemon that is currently underway and ends on August 12. Adventure Week: Taken Over will take place between August 8-12, and will feature Shadow Lugia along with the debut of Shadow Creselia inPokemon GO. Another highlight is the Pokemon World Championships-themed event, which will happen from August 16-20 and will add a new costumed Pikachu.
