Niantic has confirmed that there will be an in-gamePokemon GOevent celebrating the Pokemon 2024 World Championships in August. The Pokemon Company holds an annual competition that celebrates the long-running franchise. Players gather to take part in head-to-head tournaments across the mainline Pokemon entries, as well asPokemon GOand even thePokemon Trading Card Game, to find the world’s best trainers.
The Pokemon Company announcedthis year’s 2024 Pokemon World Championships will take place in Honolulu, Hawaii from August 16 to 18, 2024. While not every fan can make it to the special in-person event, Niantic will celebrate the annual championships with a specialPokemon GOevent.
From Friday, August 16, at 10:00 a.m. and lasting until Tuesday, July 04, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time, players will be able to take part in the 2024Pokemon GOWorld Championships event. This free event will allow players up to five Special Trades per day, along with using a Charge TM to helpShadow Pokemonforget the Charged Attack Frustration. Accompanying the timed bonuses, a new event-themed Pikachu, which will be adorned in a diving uniform and snorkel, will make its debut. The fighting Pokemon Mienfoo will also be more readily available. Both monsters will be available in one-star raids and through event research tasks, with players having a chance to catch a rare shiny version.

Along with the free elements to thePokemon GO2024 World Championships celebration, there will be a paid element to the proceedings. Trainers can opt for a $5 timed research ticket that allows gamers to encounter event-themed Pokemon such as Azumarill, Vigoroth, and Cresselia, along with 25,000 additional stardust and a premium remote raid pass. This limited research will only last until the end of the event on Tuesday, July 06, 2025, at 8:00 p.m.
Running in conjunction with the 2024Pokemon GOWorld Championship Event, players will see the GO Battle Week: Shared Skies event. This starts Friday, August 16, at 12:00 p.m. and primarily focuses on theGO Battle League. Players will see additional bonuses such as 4× Stardust from win rewards and being able to take part in up to 100 GO league battles per day. During the event, certain Pokemon will appear more frequently on the map, such as Lickitung, Paldean Wooper, and Mareanie.
The 2024Pokemon GOWorld Championships event comes at a curious time for fans. Recent leaks suggest thatPokemon GOplayers could see Dynamax raidsadded to the mobile title very soon. Niantic has previously teased the feature, but has yet to confirm any details about how the Gen-8 feature will be incorporated into the game, or when players can expect it to be rolled out.
