Summary

Shiny hunting seems to be more popular than ever inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, though one player has shared their sighting of a shiny Pokemon that they didn’t even realize could be encountered in the game. While meal powers combined with a shiny charm have allowed many hardcore fans ofPokemon Scarlet and Violetto build up massive collections of shiny critters over the past few years, it turns out that even one of the rival characters in the Gen 9 games can get their own shinies.

Typically having only a 1 in 4,096 chance of appearing in the wild, shiny Pokemon are incredibly rare, with no small portion of thePokemoncommunity dedicating their time to seeking out and catching these alternately-colored Pokemon. This incredibly popular way of playing the game has persisted for decades now, since the concept of shiny Pokemon was introduced in the Gen 2 games. There is plenty for players tomanipulate their own chances of encountering shiny Pokemon, but in extremely rare and often missable cases,Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Arven can send out his own shinies during battle.

With practicallyevery rival throughout thePokemongamesunable to have their own shinies on their teams, many fans of the franchise may not realize that Arven makes for a special case. A clip was recently shared online by a player going by the name Physical_Brick532 that shows Arven sending out a shiny Toedscool during the battle against the Titan Orthworm, much to the surprise of manyPokemonenthusiasts. There have been plenty of unsubstantiated claims suggesting that Nemona and Penny, the other main rivals inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, can have their own shiny Pokemon, too. This doesn’t appear to be true, though, as there’s a particular bug that allows Arven to have his own shiny Pokemon.

How This Rare Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Occurrence is Possible

Specifically, a hiccup somewhere in the game’s code can allow Arven’s Pokemon duringTitan Pokemon boss battlesto be shiny, despite them technically being shiny-locked. The reason for this is due to one of Arven’s Pokemon - which is different depending on which Titan Pokemon is being fought - essentially being generated by the game twice at the start of any Titan Pokemon battle. Before the cutscene for any of these battles plays, a display model is generated for Arven’s lead Pokemon, which is capable of generating and displaying as a shiny. Arven’s Pokemon is then generated again as an actual battle Pokemon once the fight starts, which can impossibly generate as a shiny due to this unique behavior in the game’s code.

Players should also bear in mind that the possibility of Arven’s Pokemon appearing as a shiny is restricted to full odds, with there being seemingly no way for the player to increase the chance of this happening. This might remind some particularly knowledgeable fans of therare possibility in some of the earlierPokemongames, where Wally can encounter and catch a shiny Ralts during the game’s story.
