An action game revealed all the way back in 2017 calledLost Soul Asidehas finally re-emerged with a gameplay clip showcasing its fast-paced action combat and unique enemy designs. The game appears to still be early in development, so there is still no official release date, but at least fans can rest assured thatLost Soul Asideis still on the way.

Announced at PSX 2017 as a PlayStation exclusive,Lost Soul Asideis an action hack-and-slash gamefrom China-based developer UltiZeroGames in what will be its debut title. While there is little information about its potential plot or specific mechanics, it has draw comparisons to the likes of similar action-based titles, but seems especially reminiscent ofDevil May Cryin its combat and aesthetics.

The game has remained under wraps for three years since its initial gameplay reveal in 2021, but fans finally got a glimpse thanks to a showcase event from Gematsu that showed off what appears to be a tech demo or in-game training arena. Combat looks fast-paced and slightly complex, with the main character having a variety of abilities, such as the power to summon floating claws and teleport and some mechanics that aredrawing parallels toFinal Fantasy 16.

Lost Soul Aside Finally Makes Another Appearance

It is unclear how different the game is in its current state from when it began development in 2014, but the developer has seemingly abandoned plans for a last-gen version, focusing solely on the PS5 and possibly a PC port. Meanwhile, the genre whichLost Soul Asideis seemingly emulating, the character action game, has made a comeback since its reveal withthe likes ofDevil May Cry 5and the PS5 exclusive hitStellar Bladeserving as potential rivals for the game.

BeforeLost Soul Asidetook center stage, the broadcast showcased some other games coming out of PlayStation’s China Hero Project, an initiative spearheded by Sony that seeks to prop up Chinese developers creating games for a worldwide audience. The intro showed off some of the project’s upcoming games, such as the online third-person shooterConvallariaand the self-proclaimed Soulslike adventureDaba: Land of Water Scar.

Some of the projects to come out of the initiative previously were the cyberpunk sidescrollerAnno: Mutationemand the VR-exclusiveImmortal Legacy: The Jade Cipher,among various others that have made their way to both PC and PlayStation platforms. As forLost Soul Aside,fans will unfortunately have to wait a while longer for more concrete information about a release date, butthe character action genrehas plenty to offer in the meantime.

Sony’s PlayStation 5 is part of the ninth console generation and debuted with a launch lineup that included Demon’s Souls and Astro’s Playroom. The console comes with a Blu-ray disc, although a digital-only edition is also available for a cheaper price.
