Summary
The originalRed Dead Redemptionmay finally be making its way to PC, according to a mysterious change in the game’s PlayStation Store description. Ever since its release in 2010, Rockstar fans have been begging the developer to bringRed Dead Redemptionto PC, and it looks like the wait may soon be over.
WhileRed Dead Redemptionwas previously confined to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Rockstar Games finally brought the popular action-adventure game to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in August 2023. Despite shooting to the top of the PlayStation Network chart,Red Dead Redemptionwas review-bombedafter fans took issue with the game simply being a port and not a remaster. Alongside the lack of new content inRed Dead Redemption’s PS4 and Switch versions, fans were also outraged at the $50 price tag that came with it.
One year on fromRed Dead Redemption’s PS4 and Switch releaseand it looks as though the hugely popular title may finally be coming to PC. Over on the game’sPlayStation Store page, an updated description refers to a PC version ofRed Dead Redemption. While there is currently no PC listing available, the PlayStation description states that the title is “now on PC for the first time ever.” It’s unclear why details of a PC port have appeared on a PSN listing, but it was noted byVGCthat the description is fairly new because an internet archive site does not show mention of a PC version as of April 2024.
Further down the updated description, it states that the port features all of the 2023 console version upgrades plus PC-specific enhancements, such as support for increased resolutions and framerates, multiple displays, spatial surround sound, and more. It is also insinuated by the PSN description thatRed Dead Redemption’s PC port will include Undead Nightmare, a popular zombie-themed DLC that was also released back in 2010 shortly afterRed Dead Redemption’s launch.
While there’s no current-gen version of the gameavailable to purchase,Red Dead Redemptiondoes support 60 FPSon the PlayStation 5 following the release of a new update in October 2023. The patch came as a surprise to many, but further fuelled the controversy after Rockstar decided to skip a native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S version when it re-released the title for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
Although it looks increasingly likely thatRed Dead Redemptionis coming to PC, fans hoping for an official current-gen release will likely be left disappointed. As therelease date forGrand Theft Auto 6inches closer and closer, Rockstar Games allocating resources to a 14-year-old title to make a current-gen remaster seems highly unlikely. But thanks to the power of the modding community,Red Dead Redemption’s PC port could end up looking like more than a simple port.
