The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerseason 2 is just around the corner and a new featurette has revealed that fans will see not one, but two versions of the villain Sauron.

The Prime Video fantasy series primarily focuses on the second age of Middle-Earth that saw Sauron returning to rule that part of the world. The first edition took an entire season to reveal the larger-than-life figure and what his intentions were. Sauron is known for changing his appearance to deceive others and try to accomplish his missions. However, a recent featurette from Prime Video has made it clear that the upcoming season ofThe Rings of Powerwill feature not one, but two different versions of the menacing character.

Celebrimbor, Galdriel, and Halbrand in the Rings of Power

In thefeaturette, fans get to learn what season 2 ofThe Rings of Powerwill focus on and how it will showcase different faces of Sauron. As the clip moves forward, actor Charlie Vickers, who played Sauron in the first season, tells viewers how his character has the ability to change forms. A few moments later, Vickers reveals that a different actor is going to play Sauron in the first scene of the upcoming edition. The featurette reveals that actor Jack Lowden will be playing a different form of the villain in season 2. Moreover, the actor mentioned that he will be a part of the flashback sequence that takes about “a thousand years before” the first season. On the other hand, showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay noted that Sauron will be out in the open and audiences would know who he is.

Lowden being the face of Sauron a thousand years ago explains why Adar didn’t recognize him as Halbrand in the first season. This is one of the many aspects that shows why Sauron is such a menacing villain and poses a greater threat to Middle Earth. Fans already saw how he managed to outclass Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) in season one, despite her being very knowledgeable and experienced. Additionally, fans might feel anxious about Sauron, disguised as Annatar, conversing with Prince Durin IV (Owain Arthur) in the new featurette. Though Durin is a formidable warrior, it’s uncertain how he’ll withstand Sauron’s cunning words. The trailers ofThe Rings of Powerseason 2 have already made it clear that the team of heroes would have to witness a lot of death this time around. This season will be more focused on how Sauron and his evil allies will continue to pose more and more dangers to everyone living in Middle Earth.

Apart from two Saurons, the season will also provide viewers with a glimpse of Tom Bombadil, a mysterious and ridiculously powerful character in the J. R. R. Tolkien universe. Played by Rory Kinnear, this would be the first time thatBombadil will be making an appearance in a live-action adaptation ofThe Lord of the Rings. It would be interesting to see if the makers will explore how Bombadil received his powers and why he is considered to be the most powerful being on Middle Earth.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerseason 2 will be streaming exclusively on Prime Video from August 29. Meanwhile, all the episodes of the first season are available on Prime Video.
