Summary
A PC port ofStellar Blademight already be happening, according to some newly emerged evidence. The game itself is less than three months old, having originally debuted on thePlayStation 5on April 26.
Stellar Bladeconcluded Sony’s recentthree-month stretch of exclusive new PS5 game releases, which also includedFinal Fantasy 7 RebirthandRise of the Ronin. None of those titles have yet been officially confirmed for any other platforms. But given Sony’s growing commitment to PC gaming, some industry watchers expect the PlayStation-publishedStellar BladeandRise of the Roninto both eventually make their way to Steam.
Stellar Blade Developer Reportedly Has a PC Project In the Works Right Now
Stellar Bladecould indeed already be in the works for PC, as suggested by a recent job ad spotted by Tech4Gamers forum userCindiestarlight. The listing describes an opening for the position of combat designer at Shift Up, the South Koreanstudio behindStellar Blade. The list of the advertised role’s responsibilities includes “PC-related system design and production.” Cindiestarlight’s report suggests that the original version of the posting described the said PC project as already “in progress.” Game Rant was unable to verify this, indicating that the listing had been altered as of July 24, possibly because it was too revealing.
Shift Up Already Confirmed It’s Considering a Stellar Blade PC Port
Thenotion of aStellar BladePC portsounds well within the realm of possibility. Shift Up has already been considering it shortly following the game’s late April release, as confirmed by its latest consolidated financial report published in May 2024. That very same document even suggested that aStellar Bladesequel is also on the cards, as well as a new original IP code-namedProject Witches.
Even if a PC version ofStellar Bladeis already in the works, its potential release window is still entirely unclear. During an IPO press conference held in June, Shift UP CEO Kim Hyung-Tae revealed that the company’s “contractual relationship” with Sony ispreventing it from officially committing to bringingStellar Bladeto PC, at least for the time being. The executive, who also served as the game’s director, did not elaborate on how long Shift Up’s PlayStation exclusivity deal with Sony is going to last.
Although Sony published the PS5 version of the game, the Japanese gaming giant never outright confirmed that it acquired the rights to theStellar BladeIP as part of its exclusivity deal with Shift Up. In fact, Kim Hyung-Tae’s recent conference comments suggest that it did not. Of course, that scenario still wouldn’t necessarily prevent Sony from offering to publish the game’s PC port, which would additionally bolster its growing library of Steam titles.
