Summary
A credible insider has claimed that Konami might have another unannouncedSilent Hillproject in the works. The longstanding Japanese publisher is keen to revive theSilent Hillseries for modern audiences by way of multiple new entries confirmed to launch in the coming years, but it appears that Konami may have more games up its sleeve than it initially let on.
The infamous cancelation of Hideo Kojima’sSilent Hillsproject in 2015 put theSilent Hillfranchise on a seven-year hiatus, disappointing many fans of the iconic survival horror series. However, their spirits were lifted in 2022 whenKonami announced a bevy of newSilent Hillgamesranging extensively in scope and targeting various platforms. The headliners were the PlayStation 5 console exclusiveSilent Hill 2remake, and the enigmaticSilent Hill f. Meanwhile,Silent Hill: AscensionandSilent Hill: Townfallwere pitched as more novel experiences, as wasSilent Hill: The Short Message, a PS5 demo that launched earlier this year.
The lukewarm critical reception toAscensionandThe Short Messagehas some fansworried about the remaining slate ofSilent Hillgames, but it seems Konami might have held back from showing its full hand when it comes to in-development projects. In a recent tweet, notable industry insider AestheticGamer highlighted a quote fromKonami’s Q1 2024 financial reportreaffirming the company’s commitment to “Silent Hill’s future.” The insider then posted a follow-up tweet wherein they alleged that Konami currently has an internally developedSilent Hillgame that the company hasn’t revealed yet, as well as a “couple other” unannounced projects.
Rumored Silent Hill Project May Differ from the Currently Announced Games in One Big Way
While anotherSilent Hillgame may not sound too surprising as Konami is quite bullish on the series, the prospect of it being internally developed draws intrigue. All the announced upcomingSilent Hillprojects are collaborative efforts between smaller game developersand Konami, such as Bloober Team spearheading theSilent Hill 2remake. Therefore, taking oneSilent Hillproject (possibly even more) under its supervision might hint at Konami wanting to be more hands-on with game development. The report is unconfirmed, of course, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.
It’s also worth noting that Konami dissolved Team Silent, the original in-house team that worked on the legacySilent Hilltitles, in the early 2000s. However, the company might just be opening up to internal game production again, especially since theMetal Gear Solid 3remake development teamconsisted of devs from both Konami and Virtuos.
