As Randy Meeks pointed out in the VHS tape he left for Sidney, Dewey and Gale inScream 3:
The past will come back to bite you in the ass. Whatever you think you know about the past, forget it. The past is not at rest. Any sins you think were committed in the past are about to break out and destroy you.
Randy’s rules from beyond the grave were designed specifically for trilogies, but the same applies to any entry in the horror franchise. There are things that happened in the past that are more than likely to come back inScream 7, especially with the return of Sidney Prescott, and the likely appearances of Gale Weathers and Mark Kincaid.
The Scream series has been going for nearly 30 years now, andthis provides the perfect opportunity forScream 7to dig into the lore of the franchise, to reveal things fans didn’t know about previous events. The sixth sequel looks set to move away from what was set up with Sam and Tara Carpenter in the last two entries, and it’ll relate more directly to Scream 1-4, withGhostface’s motivebound to be linked to something that happened in the past.
Something new could be discovered about Maureen Prescott’s Murder
Maureen Prescott’s murderwas the catalyst for all the future Ghostface attacks in the Scream franchise. It happened one year prior to the events depicted inthe 1996 originalmovie, and according to Billy Loomis, he and Stu Macher killed Sidney’s mother because she was having an affair with his father, Hank Loomis, and that’s the reason his mother, Nancy, abandoned him.
Cotton Weary was convicted of the murder, as Sidney wrongly identified him during the murder trial, as the killer she saw leaving the crime scene. Cotton was later exonerated, and it was revealed thatScream 3’sGhostface killer, Roman Bridger, was the one who put Billy up to the murder. Bridger was Maureen’s long-lost son, who she abandoned as he was the result of a rape she suffered during her time in Hollywood. Butsomething doesn’t sit right about these revelations about Maureen’s death, andScream 7could be set to tell a very different version of events.
It was evident that Roman Bridger was a vicious psychopath, after his brutal spree of killings inScream 3, so why didn’t he just kill Maureen Prescott years earlier, instead of encouraging Billy Loomis to do it? Fans of the Scream franchise have often pondered this particular issue, and it’s never sat right with a large majority of them.Scream 7could address Maureen Prescott’s death witha flashback to this kill, and this could result in a huge new revelation about her murder.
Stu Macher Could’ve Survived The Events of the 1996 Original
A fan movement keen on Stu Macher’s returnhas raised the chances of one of the original Ghostface killers appearing inScream 7. If Matthew Lillard does reprise his most famous role,it would be a massive revelation if Stu actually survived the events ofScream.Sidney Prescott dropped a big television on Stu’s head, after he’d been stabbed repeatedly by Billy Loomis. However,Kevin Williamson’s planswere initially set to see Stu return inScream 3, before they were scrapped in favor of a different story. This led to many theories that the iconic character was still alive.
Scream 7could bring Dewey back, similarly to Randy’s return inScream 3, with an unearthed video from the grave. In this video,it could be revealed that the former Sheriff of Woodsboro knew about Stu Macher being alive all these years, and he wanted to warn Sidney and Gale about his potential return alongsidea cult of Ghostface killers. The cult has been rumored to feature inScream 7,and it could explain why so many killers have donned the Ghostface mask over the years.
