After the furor over the firing of Melissa Barrera, followed by Jenna Ortega’s exit due to scheduling conflicts, andChristopher Landon dropping out as the director ofScream 7,Spyglass Media has kept a very low profile in relation to updates regarding the upcoming sequel.It was made clear thatScream 7was still going ahead, but no further details were provided, until Neve Campbell announced her return to the horror franchise in an Instagram post in March 2024, which also confirmedKevin Williamsonwould directScream 7.
Ever since Campbell revealed this huge news aboutScream 7, things have gone quiet again, with fans relying on rumors rather than official confirmation. It has been suggested that Courteney Cox has already signed on forScream 7, but Spyglass Media haven’t confirmed it, for reasons they only know. Similarly,Patrick Dempseyhas long been mooted to return, but Spyglass Media have left fans speculating rather than giving them an official confirmation.
Neve Campbell appears to be the spokesperson forScream 7, and has teased fans with some limited information about the project.In arecent interview with Entertainment Tonight, she confirmed what the focus of the story would be:

Campbell added to this statement, by saying she hadn’t received the final script yet, but she was expecting it imminently. This could also explain why the fans haven’t been given many details, as it appears Campbell doesn’t know much more until she reads the final draft ofScream 7.

We were supposed to start in September, but we’re going to start in December now because of some scheduling stuff with Kevin and myself and having that all aligned. And actually, I think it’s a good thing, because we’re going to be able to have the time to get it really right. So I’m very excited about it.
With four months still to go until the commencement of filming onScream 7, fans will need to be kept engaged with some big announcementsduring this time.
