Summary
There are so many plot points from previous entries in the Scream franchise that could be explored inScream 7, with the return of Sidney Prescott, and the likelihood of Gale Weathers and Mark Kincaid coming back to complete the trio of legacy characters in the upcoming sequel. Butthere is one particular plot point from the1996 originalthat has never been mentioned again, and it could hold the key to revealinga franchise mastermind.
Gale Weathers was a sneaky tabloid journalist in the originalScream, and she used rookie cop, Dewey Riley, to gain access to the party inScene 118 at Stu’s House.Gale planted a video recorder, to keep an eye on a potential breaking story involving the Ghostface killer. It was placed below the television that supposedly killed Stu Macher, and a feed was linked to Kenny’s equipment in the news van, where he and Gale watched the events unfold at the party, albeit with a 30-second delay.
Gale’s Video Recorder Could Hold The Answers To Stu Macher’s Fate
Everyone remembers Gale’s cameraman, Kenny Brown, eating Cheetos while watching events unfold at Stu Macher’s party, via the video stream he had in the news van, after Gale planted a recording device in the living room of the house. Gale and Kenny watched on while Randy Meeks announced the rules to successfully survive a horror movie to his drunk friends.
As Gale left with Dewey to search forpivotal original character, Neil Prescottand his car, Kenny was left to watch the mostly boring events in the house, until Sidney sought refuge from Ghostface in the news van, and the pair watched on as Ghostface approached Randy from behind with a knife. The 30-second delay allowed Ghostface enough time to make it to the van, where he slit Kenny’s throat, before Sidney escaped.
This is the last time the video recorder was mentioned in the Scream franchise, but surely it caught more of the events of that fateful night, and it could explain what really happened to Stu Macherafter the television was dropped on his head.Fans want Stu Macher to returnand Gale’s video recorder could provide the answers to how he survived, as it was situated directly below the television that was showing John Carpenter’s 1978 classic,Halloween.
Gale’s Raw Footage Could Be Introduced During The Events Of Scream 7
A fan movement could see Stu Macher return inScream 7, andthe raw footage of the moment that supposedly led to Stu’s death could be introduced during the events of the upcoming sequel. It is likely the Woodsboro Police gained access to the video recorder as part of their evidence collection after the brutal slayings at 261 Turner Lane.
If Stu did survive the incident where Sidney tipped an old school 90s television on his head,Gale’s footage would be all the proof Sidney needed to believe Stu was actually still alive. If Stu did survive, someone in law enforcement knew about it and covered it up for whatever reason. It is quite possible that Dewey Riley and Sheriff Burke decided to keep this information from Sidney (as well as the wider public), as she’d been through enough already.
Stu Macher could’ve been serving a prison sentence after recovering from his injuries, and could be due for release over 30 years after the original Ghostface murder spree,if therumored time jump happens inScream 7. It’s likely Stu would seek his revenge onScream 7’s lead character, Sidney, and finish what he and Billy Loomis started all those years ago.
Scream (2022)andScream 6both featured multiple hints at Stu’s possible survival, and this has kept the conversation going among fans and content creators. InCRAVEN Something Scary’s YouTube video ‘The Clues For Stu Macher’s Return**’, the leader of the Stu Is Alive movement pointed towards these hints purposefully leading to Stu’s return one day:
Scream 5 refers to Stu more times than any Scream sequel, and I do not believe it is an accident. I think it is by design. They want to bring Stu into the minds of the viewing audience because they are building it towards something bigger. And how you lay the groundwork is that you subtly place clues.
InScream 3, Dewey tells Gale that prior to the Ghostface murders in Hollywood, someone contacted Woodsboro Police looking for more information on Sidney Prescott:
Two months ago, the Woodsboro Police got a call from a woman who said she was with Stab 3. She wanted to see the file on Sid for research. A month later, the station gets broken into. The file room gets ransacked
Dewey goes on to tell Gale that he had already removed Sidney’s file before the assailant (clearly, Roman Bridger) could get hold of it.Maybe Dewey also removed Gale’s video recorder from evidence, and kept it somewhere safe.Dewey could come back inScream 7, via a video message he recorded before his death inScream (2022), telling Sidney and Gale about the video recording of Stu’s survival and where to find it.
