Summary

Undoubtedly, of all the announced projects that theMCUhas put out in the last few months, none are more anticipated thanAvengers: Secret Wars. Since the announcement thatRobert Downey Jr was announced to bring Victor Von Doomto theMCU, fans have wondered how the acclaimed storySecret Warswould be brought to life on the big screen. The events of the story surrounding God Emperor Doom, a cosmically powered Doom who rewrote the fabric of reality into the realm known as Battleworld, featured many different characters and reworked factions. One such faction that should make an appearance is none other than the Thor Corps.

Known as Battleworld, Doom’s ultimate police force for all the various realms of the world, the all-powerful Thors are a significant organization led by Thors from across the multiverse. After the success ofDeadpool and Wolverine, including the introduction of the Deadpool Corps, it seems only fitting that exploring Thor and his impact across the multiverse should culminate in introducing the Thors Corpsinto theMCUin the upcoming filmAvengers: Secret Wars.

Thor In Thor The Dark World

The Thor Corps, EXPLAINED

Emerging in the aftermath of the incursions that destroyed the multiverse, the Thor Corps are the powerful police force that enforces God Emperor Doom’s laws amid Battleworld. Wholly loyal and following Doom without question, the Thor Corps was a product of Doom’s reimaging of the multiverse in which he became its supreme ruler, having taken the power of the Beyonders(the Ivory Kings) during a confrontation in the 616 Universe. The Ultimate Universe collided with one another in the final incursion of the multiverse.

Having to join the Thor Corps by proving themselves worthy of a Mjorlnir in an introductory ceremony, each member of the Thor Corps wielded a version of the infamous hammer and worked out of Doomgard, the base of the Thor Corps. The prominent Thor who spoke the ancient laws created by Doom was King Thor, while the Thor that grew in infamy was Thunderer Thorlief, the Thor of the 1610 universe. He was known for solving the Battleworld’s “Mangog Murders” and arresting up to 13 hulks in one night. There were many different versions of Thor throughout the Thor Corps, including a Gamora, Groot, and She-Hulk Thor, as well as many others.

When the rebellion of Doom began on Battleworld, Jane Foster’s Thor infiltrated the Thor Corps, and with the assistance of the Thor of Higher Avalon, a realm within Battleworld ruled by Brian Braddock, they were able to finally convince the Thor Corps that Doom had lied to them from the start regarding their origins and their purpose. They would join the open rebellion against Doom, fighting the Barons who served Doom as they protected the capital known as Doomstadt. However, Thor Corps will be caught in the blast along with everyone else when Molecule Man transferred Doom’spower to Reed Richards, ending Doom’s reign and Battleworld once and for all.

The Thor Corps Needed in the MCU

One of the most fascinating things to come out of introducing the multiverse in theMCUthus far has been the various versions of beloved characters. From the infinite Lokis scattered throughout the void to thevarious Wolverines introducedin the beginning ofDeadpool and Wolverine, theMCUhas had no shortage of different versions of the same character introduced in a way that is both not confusing and hilariously original. To do so again with the Thor Corps in theAvengers: Secret Warsfilm makes complete sense.

The same thing wasdone for the Deadpool CorpsinDeadpool and Wolverine. Not only did we get Nicepool and everyone’s favorite, Dogpool, but the big climactic battle towards the end of the film included the two heroes facing the entirety of the Deadpool Corps, including Lady Deadpool and Kidpool. The range of different versions of the same character was staggering, yet audiences had no problem following the plot and readily accepting these variants of the same character. The logistics alone make the Thor Corps a perfect reality for the upcoming films.

In addition, Thor has proven to be one of the most powerful heroes in theMCU, having survived and withstood some of the most powerful villains and events in theMCUtimeline. Bringing Thor intoSecret Warsmust be unique and creative, and introducing the Thor Corps does just that. Seeing not only Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman bring back their versions of the hero but also getting a chance to see other versions of the Thor hero, including otherMCUheroes as their universe’s Thor, would add both humor and mythos to whatever version of Battleworld Robert Downey Jr’s Doom creates in the aftermath of the coming incursions. No matter theMCU’sdirectionwith theSecret Warsfilm, the filmmakers should include the Thor Corps in the narrative.
