InStar Wars Outaws, building Kay’s reputation level with various crime syndicates is at the heart of the overall gameplay loop. While there are several ways that Kay canincrease and lower her reputation, many of which are not directly tied to the story, there are a select few main story beats that can have a massive impact. These choices are likely to shape which syndicates Kay will ally herself with, especially earlier in the game. One of the best examples of this is Kay being forced tochoose between supporting the Ashiga Queen, orsupporting her daughter Krisk, who is allied with Crimson Dawn.
In"The Hive,“one ofStar Wars Outlaws’main missions on Kijimi, Kay will have to decide whether to give theAshiga Origin Strandto the Queen, or to her daughter Krisk, who is trying to overthrow her.SWOdoes an excellent job of layering the decision in such a way that it is not obvious who the better choice is. In this guide, we will explain what appears to be the best answer to whether Kay shouldgive the strand to the Ashiga Queen, or Krisk.
Should I Give the Strand to Queen Ashiga or Krisk?
At the end of “The Hive,” Kay will find herself having to decide what to do with the Origin Strand, an extremely important Ashiga artifact that has a profound impact on the future of the clan. If you only stick to the main mission, most of the information you receive will come from Krisk, the Queen’s daughter, and Qi’ra, the leader of Crimson Dawn, the syndicate backing Krisk.
According to Krisk, the Queen has allied herself with the Empire, and is putting the future of the entire Ashiga clan in jeopardy. However, the Queen never mentions any connection to the Empire, and we are largely left to wonder whether this is actually true. We know thatCrimson Dawn is a ruthless criminal syndicate, and that it is unlikely they would involve themselves in this situation with any altruistic intentions. Still, it is technically possible that both things could be true.
So Kay must decide whether to believe Krisk and Qi’ra, or to trust that the Queen has the best interests of her people at heart.
Giving the Origin Strand to Krisk in Star Wars Outlaws
When Kay is presented with the choice between the Queen and Krisk, it is possible to hover over each option to see what Kay stands to gain from each outcome. When you hover over Krisk, you see that Kay will receive an increase to her Crimson Dawn reputation level. The boost is considerable, and can easily push Kay into a new reputation tier.
As soon as Kay picks Krisk, she kills the Queen, and takes the crown for herself. There is very little emotion, as Krisk clearly sees this as absolutely necessary to secure her people’s future. However,SWOoffers several indications that this may not have been the best option.
Giving the Origin Strand to Queen Ashiga in Star Wars Outlaws
When you hover over the Ashiga Queen during the choice screen, you’ll see that Kay will receive an increase to her reputation with the Ashiga clan. If you are looking to do what’s best for the Ashiga, this is likely a major hint. The boost gained is more than enough to push Kay into the next named reputation level.
Once Kay chooses to give the Origin Strand to the Queen, the royal bodyguards will cut down Krisk. It appears as if the Queen is going to give her a chance to surrender, but that ultimately proves not to be the case. Kay has no power over this, and must stand by as a passive observer.
Queen Ashiga or Krisk – Best Choice
At the end of the main quest, it does not appear as if Kay’s choice has had any significant impact on the overall story. Because of this, the question of whether Kay should choose the Queen or Krisk seems to largely depend on which syndicate the player wishes to align with that given moment. Every syndicate offers rewards for reaching each reputation tier, and a final reward for reaching the max level. This is something to consider when deciding who to support.
Another factor to consider is having the freedom to explore. If Kay has a Bad reputation with either the Ashiga or Crimson Dawn, you may want to consider siding with that syndicate. Having Good or better reputation with as many syndicates as possible will aid your ability to explore the world tremendously.
Response from Qi’ra:
It appears that, regardless of which option you choose, Kay and Qi’ra will have exactly the same conversation at the end. Kay is upset that she was forced to be part of an execution, and this occurs with both choices. It’s only the person being executed that changes. It does not appear that Qi’ra is upset or disappointed when Kay chooses to side with the Queen. This seems to imply that Qi’ra’s ultimate goal was simply to weaken the Ashiga by turning them against each other. Story wise, it seems that the entire point is that neither choice is right or wrong, just bad and worse.
Final Notes:
There is some indication that the characters around Kay view the choice to back Krisk and the Crimson Dawn as being wrong. There is a general feeling that both Kay and Krisk were manipulated by Qi’ra and the Crimson Dawn. This is reinforced by the summary screen that is shown while using the hyperdrive to leave Kijiimi. The notes spell out in no uncertain terms that Kay was, in fact, manipulated into choosing to back the Crimson Dawn.
In direct contrast, when Queen Ahsiga receives the Strand, the summary paints the choice in a much better light. However, there are no lasting positive or negative repercussions, so the only way this choice affects Kay is through the perception of those around her.
Ultimately, as stated above, the best choice for the player in this situation is to simply pick the outcome that improves Kay’s reputation with the preferred syndicate. It does not appear that choosing the Queen or Krisk will have any significant impact on the overall story.
