Pyramid Head is one of the most iconic characters in theSilent Hillfranchise and one fan has created a near identical cosplay to his initial character model from 2001’sSilent Hill 2. With theSilent Hill 2remake progressing towards release, the character’s design is being spotlighted by the fan base.
Pyramid Headfirst appeared inSilent Hill 2andwas designed by Masahrio Ito. Initially, he was referred to as Red Pyramid Thing, gaining the name Pyramid Head from the player base. As the manifestation of main character James Sunderland’s guilt, Pyramid Head stalks players as they search for Mary. He wields a Great Knife or Great Spear to slaughter the creations of Silent Hill and players alike.
Cosplayer Xeno_Rider posted on theSilent Hillsubreddit two of the final photos showcasing their extremely detailed Pyramid Head cosplay. Looking to remain as authentic as possible to the character design inSilent Hill 2, they referenced a variety of sources when creating the costume. Cleaning up the in-game 3D model and using textures from theSilent Hill 2remake’s Pyramid Head, led to a meticulously detailed Pyramid Head cosplay. A list of materials and techniques used wasn’t included in the post, nor was there a final cost listed for the construction of the costume.
Instead of wielding the Great Knife, which most cosplayers choose when becomingPyramid Head, Xeno_Rider crafted the Great Spear, instead. Using the most recent GECCO figure as a reference for the Great Spear, the smaller weapon was much easier to transport. The Great Spear is used throughout the game, and is the chosen weapon for the Pyramid Head boss battle. Players could even wield it inSilent Hill: Book of Memories.
Photographed by bbx_photography at Pixelmania in Poland, the shots are backlit and filled with smoke. Comprised of a columned arena, the setting is well-matched to that of the game. Xeno_Rider’s domineering pose captures the essence of Pyramid Head. The zoomed-in profile shows off the detail put into the monster’s triangle head.
While Pyramid Head is one of the main enemies theSilent Hill 2remake needs to faithfully reconstruct, it’s not the only challenge the developers face. With a dedicated and loyal fan base, Bloober Team is facing an uphill battle to please all players. The dev team is looking for fans and prospectiveSilent Hill 2remake players to take a leap of faithwith the title.
