There are those willing to do anything to save others from the terror within the mist, or even from themselves. These protagonists or side characters are always there to bring much-needed light into a world of darkness, terror, and madness.

Downpourmissed the mark for some fans of the series. While others praised its atmosphere, visuals, and small bursts of brilliance, it was let down mostly by the combat, but this has never been the focus of the franchise.
Following the story of criminalMurphy who escapes into the town after the criminal transfer bus crashes, one might not expect such a mild-mannered man who can act with selflessness at times. While it is true the start of the game doesn’t paint him in a good light, his actions further in Downpour prove there is more than meets the eye with Murphy Pendleton. It is canonical that he tried to save the police officer Anne Cunningham from falling, and attempted to save a woman he did not know from danger.

Wishes to Make Positive Impacts on the World
TheSilent Hilltitles following the original 4 were handed over to other developers, resulting in some divisive games that most fans thought failed to capture the magic of the Team Silent projects, but still created some fantastic monsters and unmatched soundtracks thanks to theskill of series composer Akira Yamaoka.
Silent Hill: Homecomingwas one such title, introducing one-time playable protagonist Alex Shepherd, a surly and grim man deadset on his goal to find his missing brother Joshua. The player largely has an impact on his personality, and they can be the difference between him being selfless and heroic or selfish and heartless to the world around him. But there is an unchangeable desire within Alex to make some positive differences to the world as evidenced by some of his in-game lines. Beneath it all, Alex could be an altruistic individual if given the chance.

As ayoung woman who has not quite fully maturedyet, Heather is prone to angry outbursts and is not immune to typical teenaged mischief, but this doesn’t prevent her from having moments of selflessness, and a sense of right and wrong. Although Mary was the main reasonSilent Hill 2exists in the first place, she does not share as much screen time as other characters, such asprotagonist James Sunderlandand companion Maria. She has a few scenes, and even a boss fight at the end, but the most notable appearance she has is the voice-over of the letter she left for James to read upon her death.
After contracting a terminal illness, James and Mary’s idyllic marriage hit some problems, which her letter briefly refers to. And yet, even while dealing with a distancing husband and facing her own impending death, her final parting words in the letter are her wishes for James to go on and live a happy life, and proclaiming just how happy he made her. No one could blame her for being bitter, but these words prove that Mary is one of the most selfless people in the entire series.

After a car accident on the outskirts of the resort town of Silent Hill, you regain consciousness to find that your daughter, who was previously asleep in the backseat, has left–or has been taken–from the scene. To find her, you must go into town and unlock the secrets that linger seven years after a tragic fire scarred the town.The game features formidable monsters, perplexing puzzles, a realistic 3-D town, and, most of all, an acute sense of foreboding caused by Silent Hill’s creative lighting and sound effects. The makers have included four different endings, based on performance throughout the game, so think, be quick on your feet, and hope for the best of all possible outcomes.
The firstSilent Hillgamedetailed Harry Mason’s search for his daughter Cheryl after she disappears following a car crash. Harry finds himself confronted with the terrifyingly rusty and twisted ‘otherworld’ and all the creatures that dwell within it, as well as confronting the town’s gruesome past involving the rebirth of their deity using the young Alessa as its vessel.
Yet despite everything he is faced with, Harry’s will and determination to save Cheryl never falter, as does his will to save others such as Cybil and Lisa, even though in the end he can’t do anything to help her. This not only shows courage but a sense of selflessness as he places the needs of others above his own. This is further evidenced in both good endings as Harry adopts the infant who would grow up to be Heather.
The lastSilent Hillgame handled by Team Silent,Silent Hill 4: The Room, was considered to beone of the greatest titles in the franchise, alongsideSilent Hill,Silent Hill 2,andSilent Hill 3.Starring a brand-new protagonist, Henry Townshend is the world’s biggest shut-in, with literal chains and padlocks preventing him from leaving his apartment. That is until a large tunnel appears in his bathroom, which leads into a dreadful nightmare dimension.
Several other characters are pulled into the nightmares alongside him, such as Cynthia Vasquez and Eileen Galvin. No matter who is alongside him, Henry demonstrates true selflessness as he always strives to help and protect them from the surrounding dangers. There are also smaller moments that show the depths of his kindness, such as hugging Eileen to comfort him and risking pain as he tries to save Richard from being electrocuted. Despite his status as a hermit, Henry might be one of the most altruistic game characters ever created.
