After months of anticipation,Star Wars' first truly open-world experience has finally arrived, and with it a whole new batch of exciting characters. Not only doesStar Wars Outlawsintroduce players to Kay Vess and a wide variety of criminal syndicate members, but it also gives them the adorable companion Nix to fight by their side. Although he may be tiny, he can often prove vital in any battle. And because of his abilities, someStar Wars Outlawsfans may quickly see parallels to another iconicStar Warscompanion, BD-1.

Introduced inStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order,BD-1 serves as Cal Kestis' droid companionthroughout both of the games. He spends much of his time guiding the player, helping them in times of need, and just being a constant companion through all sorts of trials. However, although BD-1 is valuable,Star Wars: Outlaws' Nix might actually be a bit more useful overall.

Star Wars Outlaws' Nix Truly is a Worthy Companion

Nix Has Proven Extremely Useful in the Field

When players first start upStar Wars Outlaws, they are instantly introduced to Nix. He is Kay Vess' loyal pet and has seemingly been trained to do so many different things for her. Just like BD-1, he will alert players if there are treasures or interesting things nearby. Additionally, he can help access hard-to-reach places and offers constant companionship throughout the adventure. However, his usefulness does not stop there.

Nix has the ability to actually engage in combat, distract enemies, and generally be ordered around the world on a whim. All players have to do is point where they want him to go, select the corresponding button, and he will head off to do just that. Maybe they want him to explode a barrel, attack an enemy, press a button, or simply do a little dance to distract an intimidating enemy. Whatever the case may be,Star Wars Outlaws' Nixseems to be able to do it all.

BD-1 Feels Rather Limited in Comparison

Star Wars Jedi’s BD-1is also an extremely useful companion, albeit a bit more limited by comparison. He does still help players find secrets, alerts players about things, and also provides constant chatter. Additionally, he is the source of stim packs and can be upgraded with an assortment of tools to help navigate the game’s many planets. However, players do not have nearly as much control over where he goes, and he also does not really engage in combat without a bit of help.

Instead of actively grabbing onto and biting enemies, BD-1 can be upgraded with slice and hack abilities that can sway enemy droids. InStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, he was able to slice into either Security Droids or Prove Droids. But inStar Wars Jedi: Survivor, he had the ability to slice into so many more droids, which would then have them turn on their allies. So, while he may not have been doing the fighting, he was pretty great at recruiting unwilling fighters.

Even with those abilities, it still feels like BD-1 is lacking a bit compared to Nix, which may partly be due to the fact that players do not have much direct control. They are able to point BD-1 towards a couple of things, but they can order Nix around anywhere they want in the world. Couple that with his abilities, and he makes for a fantastic companion that fans may not soon forget. Hopefully his popularity will translate to a more advanced and capable BD-1 when the eventual thirdStar Wars Jedigame hits store shelves.
