Summary

Ahead of its release,Star Wars Outlawsis already proving to be an incredibly uniqueStar Warsgaming experience. While some of this is due to it being the very firstopen-worldStar Warsgame, the fact that its protagonist is a scoundrel and an outlaw rather than a Jedi means players will be in for a journey unlike any they’ve had in a modernStar Warsgame. As Kay Vess, players will attempt to pull off a massive heist as she attempts to pay off a major crime syndicate.

As its premise suggests,Star Wars Outlawsis likely to place a significant emphasis on earning money (credits) throughout the game. After all, not only is the primary focus of Kay’s journey earning a massive amount of money by pulling off a heist, but there will also be plenty of opportunities for players to earn credits in other ways — like playing mini-games and completing tasks for various syndicates. With such an emphasis placed on money,Star Wars Outlaws' economy needs to give Kay plenty of reasons to spend her hard-earned money. This is a roadblock that many games with a similar emphasis seem to run into at some point, soStar Wars Outlawsshould do everything in its power to take a different route.

Star Wars Outlaws' Economy Needs to Match Kay’s Income

There Are Plenty of Ways for Kay to Make an Income in Star Wars Outlaws

As it should,Star Wars Outlawshas ensured Kay will have more than enough ways to make an income. Firstly, as players complete tasks forStar Wars Outlaws' crime syndicates, they will likely receive a sum of credits for their efforts. There has also been mention of moisture farms for players to purchase that can earn them a passive income while they play the game. With Kay’s stealth skills and Nix’s retrieval skills, it can be assumed that players will have opportunities to earn income by stealing it as well. Finally, players can earn income by participating in mini-games like Sabacc, a popular card game in theStar Warsuniverse, and Fathier Racing, where players can bet on which fathier they think will win the race.

Kay Should Have Enough to Spend Her Credits on in Star Wars Outlaws

A common obstacle that many modern games run into is having an economy that doesn’t complement the amount of money players can obtain. A game likeFinal Fantasy 16is a great example of this, with countless methods for obtaining massive amounts of Gil, only for most of that Gil to be spent on the game’sOrchestrion Rolls, which are nothing more than background tracks players can play during their time at the Hideout.Star Wars Outlawscan afford to take a step in a different direction here by giving Kay plenty of valuable items to spend her credits on as she moves toward pulling off a heist.

Star Wars Outlawsalready has more than enough reason to give Kay numerous outlets to spend her credits on.Star Wars Outlaws' Trailblazerhas been confirmed to be customizable, so perhaps players could spend their credits on a new skin for the ship. Kay’s blaster will also be customizable, so there should be more than enough options in the game’s shops for blaster components. Otherwise, there should at least be enough purchasable ingredients to craft new components. Finally, it would make sense to give players a wide variety of cosmetic items that players can purchase for Kay so she can pull off her heist in style.

It makes more sense forStar Wars Outlawsto avoid the economic roadblock that so many other games run into, simply due to its premise. With such a focus on earning money,Star Wars Outlaws' economy needs to be ready to burn a hole inKay Vess' pocket.
