Summary
WhileStardew Valleyallows the Farmer to fish from different bodies of water, one of its players recently discovered that it’s possible to fish out a trashcan from the fountain in Pelican Town. The main gameplay loop ofStardew Valleyrevolves around farming. Planting seeds, watering one’s crops, and reaping the harvest are the key to turning a profit. However, time spent away from the farm can be spent in a myriad of ways. Players can explore the Mines and befriend the villagers of Pelican Town, or they can also dedicate themselves to fishing.
Fishing inStardew Valleyis split into two gameplay modes: a mini-game using the Fishing Rod, and building Crab Pots along the shore. Players can catch all sorts of fish depending on the method used, the location, time of day, season, and even weather conditions. While the mini-game can sometimes break in favor of the player, it’s important to keep one’s Fishing Rod upgraded and have the fishing skill sufficiently raised in order to get the most out of the fishing experience.
Though there are someunique fish inStardew Valleythat players can obtain from unorthodox locations, such as the Mines or the Witch’s Hut, a player named THAT_GEEKY_GIRL13 made a rather amusing discovery by attempting to fish from the fountain in Pelican Town instead. Though it’s no Lava Eel or Void Salmon, it turns out that the Farmer can fish out aDecorative Trash Canif they cast their rod into the fountain above Pierre’s General Store. The first few attempts will likely yield a few pieces of wood, but players are eventually guaranteed to obtain the trashcan.
Stardew Valley Player Fishes Out an Unexpected Item
The trashcan was added inUpdate 1.5 ofStardew Valley, which also introduced Ginger Island to the game. While players are encouraged to explore at their own pace, fishing can be a rewarding experience for those who can think outside the box. For example, fishing in the Secret Woods during any season can yield aWall Basket, whereas casting a rod next to the entrance of the Sewers with a Level 15 in Fishing will give players anIridium Krobusstatue.
The total number of these unique decorations that players can obtain is 12, and many of them can only be obtained once per save file or once per player in themultiplayer mode ofStardew Valley. Update 1.6 tampered with the drop rate of certain uniques fished on Ginger Island, so it remains to be seen if future patches will ever expand the list.
