It was soon realized that the “Beta Testing” update wasn’t unique toHollow Knight: Silksong, as over 55,000 Steam games received a similar update on their backends on July 11, 2025. At the moment, it’s unclear what this update entails for Steam titles, but it certainly doesn’t tease an imminent announcement forHollow Knight: Silksong. The prospect of an out-of-the-blue update on the game was also somewhat dubious, especially afterHollow Knight: Silksongskipped Gamescom 2024, one of the bigger gaming events of the year that recently concluded.

With 2024 set to close out in a few months, only a handful of gaming events remain whereHollow Knight: Silksongcould potentially be shown off. The current likeliest candidate is the 2024 Game Awards ceremony, which is scheduled to air on December 12. A PlayStation State of Play is also rumored for September 2024, but sinceHollow Knight: Silksongis a day one Game Pass release, its marketing rights may lie with Xbox. Regardless of whetherHollow Knight: Silksongis shown off this year, though, it seems almost certain that a 2024 release is not on the cards anymore.
