8Shota Aizawa / Eraser Head
He Was An Efficient Pro Hero Before He Became A Teacher
Shota Aizawa(AKA Eraser Head) may initially seem a lot less powerful than most of his contemporaries, but he was already quite strong by the time this spin-off/prequel starts, one year before he began teaching at U.A. High School. While he spent most of his screen time in the main series as either a teacher or as an agent in the war against All For One,Vigilantesshows fans why and how he gained so much respect from the public, even if he’s a lot more introverted than All Might.
Ironically enough, Eraser Head pretty much works in the shadows like a Vigilante, but he actually has a Pro Hero License. Throughout the spin-off’s story, he efficiently used a combination of both his Erasure quirk and his iconic Capturing Weapon to fight and restrain numerous characters, like Knuckleduster or Octoid. On top of that,Vigilantesalso features a very important and emotional flashback sequence that focuses on his past, including his friendship with Present Mic and Oboro Shirakumo.
7Bee☆Pop
An Explosive Queen Bee Possessing An Innocent Idol
Kazuho Haneyama (better known as the idol Pop☆Step) is not quite strong, since her Quirk, Leap, mainly lets her jump at high altitudes and not much more. That’s perfectly fine, however, sinceKazuho’s dream is to become a famous and successful idol, and she doesn’t need to be particularly powerful to achieve it.
This unfortunately changed when she was forcibly turned into the villain namedBee☆Popby Number 6. By possessing Kazuho with the Queen Bee Quirk, Bee☆Popcan use her Leap Quirk and jump extremely high while spreading deadly swarms of bees that she can control. On top of that, she can also make Bomb Bees that detonate on command, and their power is further enhanced by the Trigger drug. All of these elements combined made this brainwashed villain a true menace that caused terror throughout the Naruhata ward.
6Iwao Iguro / O’Clock / Knuckleduster
An Incredible Hero Who Became A Violent Vigilante
My Hero Academia: Vigilantesintroduced an amazing Pro Hero from the past simply known asO’Clock(real name: Iwao Oguro). With his Overclock Quirk, he could accelerate at extreme speeds for as long as he could hold his breath.O’Clock became a respected hero thanks to his Quirk, which makes a lot of sense since he was basicallyMy Hero Academia’s version of Flash.
However, at one point, Overclock is stolen by the villain All For One, leaving Iwao Iguro completely Quirkless. But he never gave up, as he took on the mantle ofKnuckleduster, a heroic but ruthless vigilante who kept fighting crime with his fists. Because of his previous experience as a Pro Hero, he managed to become a formidable fighter who could even go toe-to-toe against powerful heroes and villains, including Number 6.
5Christopher Skyline / Captain Celebrity
A Living Superman Reference With A Unique Flight Quirk
When it comes toPro Heroes from the United States, most fans will immediately think of their #1, Star and Stripe. ButVigilantesintroduced another powerful American hero, years before Cathleen Bate first appeared in the main series. This was the Playboy Hero:Captain Celebrity, whose real name is Christopher Skyline. Similarly to All Might and Star and Stripe, he is an unsubtle reference to Superman but with an American coat of paint.
Just like Superman himself, Captain Celebrity can fly at high speeds, but there’s something more about his Quirk that makes him particularly interesting and quite strong. In reality, Captain Celebrity does not simply fly; he actually covers himself in a telekinetic barrier that protects him from physical harm, lets him (and whatever he touches) fly, and even grants him immense strength. Because of that distinction, Captain Celebrity became a skilled and respected professional hero, although he later needed to improve his personality a bit.
4Number 6
A Deadly Villain With Multiple Quirks And Transformations
The main antagonist in the story ofMy Hero Academia: Vigilantesis simply calledNumber 6, andhe’s quite similar to Tomura Shigaraki from the main series in a lot of aspects. He was also used as an experiment by All For One from a young age, who gave him multiple Quirks that made him a true danger for Japan’s Hero Society and a powerful combatant who could face even the strongest heroes.
For starters, Number 6 was graced with the Overclock Quirk that was stolen from Iwao Oguro, and he even managed to master it in ways that O’Clock never could. On top of that, he was also able to generate electromagnetic pulses, regenerate body parts, and control the Bomber cells in his body. During the climax of the story, Number 6 became a true monster that achieved more than three different transformations inhis final battle against Koichi, and they were all stronger than the previous one.
3Koichi Haimawari / The Crawler / The Skycrawler
Turned A Weak Quirk Into A Powerful Weapon
Koichi Haimawariis an excellent protagonist because his entire story explores a fascinating aspect of theMy Hero Academiaworld that was mostly left untouched in the main series. Unlike Izuku Midoriya, Koichi actually was born witha Quirk named Slide and Glide, but it seemed to be relatively weak and useless at first. It wasn’t until he met Knuckleduster and decided to become a vigilante that Koichi began training his Quirk in order to reach his true potential.
Quirks inMy Hero Academiacan always improve and evolve, depending on how each person uses them. So, over the course of 126 chapters, Koichi turned Slide and Glide from a weak ability that barely let him move at unimpressive speeds into an incredible superpower that allows him to glide, avoid enemy attacks, climb walls, fire repulsion beams, slide at blinding speeds, and even destroy giant enemies with his fists. Based on this massive growth, it’s no wonder that Koichi became Captain Celebrity’s sidekick and earned the name ofThe Skycrawlerby the end of the series.
2Enji Todoroki / Endeavor
Younger And Way More Aggressive
Regardless of how many new strong characters were introduced inVigilantes, none of them could surpass the highest ranked Pro Heroes of Japan. However, since it is a prequel that takes place many years beforeMy Hero Academiabegins, it gives readers a fascinating new perspective on some of these characters, and the #2 Pro Hero,Endeavor, is one of the best examples.
The version of Endeavor featured inVigilantesis younger, more ambitious, and way more aggressive than his older self, since there are still several years left untilhis redemption and character development. As a result, Enji Todoroki is absolutely ruthless in this spin-off and uses his massive firepower to fight many villains and vigilantes. He was very close to killing Koichi in their initial encounter, and he was single-handedly responsible for defeating multiple Bombers in the Naruhata Lockdown, saving a lot of people in the process.
1Toshinori Yagi / All Might
Fans Got To See The #1 Pro Hero At Almost His Full Power
By the time the plot ofMy Hero Academiastarts,All Mightwas very close to retiring, andhe evenpassed his One For All Quirk to Izuku Midoriyain one of the earlier chapters. The Symbol of Peace and #1 Pro Hero of Japan definitely had an impressive showing in the main series, butVigilantesshowed All Might when he was still one of the most powerful heroes of the country, a little bit after his prime. And he certainly did not disappoint.
Toshinori Yagi has such a strong presence in the story ofVigilantesthat not only did he practically inspire Koichi to become a hero despite him not having a professional license, but many story arcs rely on All Might not being where the villains are attacking, just so he doesn’t immediately and single-handedly stop them. This can be perfectly seen at the end of the Sky Egg arc, when he practically stopped the entire Bomber attack on his own, or during the Naruhata Lockdown Arc, where he saved the day when he defeated multiple Bombers in one fell swoop. Getting to witness All Might in such good shape is quite glorious, and it’s something that no fan ofMy Hero Academiashould miss.
