These two legendary figurescollaborated onKiller7, an action game developed by Suda51’s Grasshopper Manufacture and published by Capcom in 2005. Co-written by Suda51 and Shinji Mikami,Killer7was the former’s first game released outside of Japan and told the bloody tale of an elite group of assassins that are manifested by an elderly man named Harman Smith. While it didn’t get great reviews upon its release,Killer7would go on to gain cult status thanks to its striking cel-shaded visuals and bizarre story.
During this week’s Grasshopper Direct 2024 presentation, Suda 51 was joined by Shinji Mikami, to discuss theupcomingShadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered. The topic eventually turned toward what the two would like to do in the future, with Mikami answering that he would be interested in making aKiller7sequel. Suda 51 replied that he would like to make a “Complete Edition” of the original game before starting any follow-up, which he playfully suggested could be titled “Killer11” or “Killer7: Beyond.”

As for what new content could be added ina hypotheticalKiller7re-release, it was revealed that Coyote Smith, one of the titular “killer7,” was originally planned to have more dialogue in the original game – which could be restored in the updated version should it come to pass. Mikami agreed that an update toKiller7would be “doable,” and that fans of the original would surely appreciate seeing the cult classic return on modern hardware.
A PC port of the originalKiller7was released in 2018, and there were rumors of aKiller7Nintendo Switch portback in 2020 that were ultimately debunked. As for a potentialKiller7sequel, Suda 51 noted in the past that such a project would be difficult due to Capcom still holding the IP rights, though he has also said that he would certainly be interested in making one if given the chance.
