This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
In a surprising twist of fate, the latest DLC forSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueindicates that players are now rescuing the once-brainwashed heroes of Earth. ThroughoutSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s main story campaign, the ruthless alien tyrant Brainiac takes control of the Justice League and sends them after the titular Task Force X. By the time the game’s credits roll, the entire League is dead, though things might not be as they appear after all.
Players have drawn several theories about how Rocksteady’s version of the Justice League could return after the events ofSuicide Squad, with one of the more popular ones being that the heroes fought in the game are actually clones created by Brainiac to spearhead his ongoing invasion of Metropolis. Earlier this year, leakedSuicide SquadDLC audioadded credence to this idea by suggesting that at least Green Lantern and The Flash are still alive following their gruesome ends at the hands of Task Force X.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice LeagueSeason 2went live earlier this month, and has seemingly confirmed that The Flash is indeed alive and well. As reported byIGN, one of the DLC’s cutscenes sees the Scarlet Speedster being rescued by the Squad after a boss battle against a multiversal Brainiac copy. Flash runs in, asks why the Suicide Squad members aren’t locked up in jail, then faints, leaving Task Force X to place him in stasis while he recovers from his ordeal.
The cutscene has naturally sparked more debate and speculation on the new direction thatSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueappears to be headed in. Some players still believe that the “brainwashed”Justice League members fought in the main gamewere merely clones, while others theorize that they were indeed killed, only to be revived by Brainiac somehow. Others still are wondering if this latest development means that the ever-popular Akhamverse Batman could return as well, despite the passing of longtime Batman actor Kevin Conroy back in 2022.
Suicide Squad’s latest DLC chapterraises as many questions as it seems to answer, but it looks like the rest of the game’s story content will be devoted to Task Force X’s efforts to rescue the remaining Justice League members from Brainaic’s clutches. Perhaps another hero could be saved in the upcoming Season 3, which is rumored to add Lawless as a playable character.Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguehas been met with much controversy and disappointing sales figures, but this new story direction could be what the troubled game needs to renew player interest.
