During the Nintendo Partner Showcase, it was revealed thatSuikoden 1 and 2 HD Remasterwill be released on Jul 01, 2025. Following the trailer’s debut at the Nintendo showcase, Konami shared more information, announcing thatSuikoden 1 and 2 HD Remasterwill also be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Konami first announcedSuikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Warsin 2022. The remaster would keep the sprites of monsters and characters in 2D, while all the environments, backgrounds, and special effects would receive a high-resolution upgrade. Initially, the collection had a 2023 release date, but Konamipostponed theSuikoden 1 and 2 HDrelease date.

Now, a new release date for theSuikoden Remaster Collectionhas been confirmed.Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remasterwill launch on March 6for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and Steam. The release date trailer also revealed moregameplay details for theSuikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster, such as the ability to increase battle speed by up to 4x and an auto mode to optimize each character’s commands.

Other enhancements were also announced for the games. All characters will have new portraits, redesigned by Junko Kawano, the same artist who initially drew them in 1995. BothSuikodenwill include a significant number of environmental sounds not present in the original versions, such as the sound of running water, wind, insects, and footsteps, with battle sounds now in HD as well. Lastly, the games will feature an updated interface and a dialogue log, an essential addition considering thatSuikodengames are incredibly lengthy RPGs.

When theSuikoden Remaster Collectionwas announced, fans were astonished, as they believed Konami had forgotten the series. However, many speculate that the publisher decided to reviveSuikodenafter the success ofEiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroeson Kickstarter, a game considered the series' spiritual successor since it was created by Yoshitaka Murayama,Suikoden’s original creator.

After the successful crowdfunding ofEiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, Murayama was asked if he would return to Konami to produce a newSuikodentitle, and at the time, he expressed his willingness. Unfortunately,Yoshitaka Murayama passed awayshortly beforeEiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroeswas released, meaning he neither saw the success of his indie creation nor will be able to return to leadSuikodenif the remastered collection proves successful.
