Summary
Super Smash Bros. Ultimateis permanently adding Pokemon Spirits to the game. These Spirits originate fromPokemon Scarlet and Violet, and were previously offered inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateearlier this year for a limited time basis.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Spiritsare a unique feature of the game. Players can encounter and battle Spirits on the Spirit Board, and can purchase Spirits to use them to boost their own fighters in the World of Light story mode. Typically, Spirits from outside games are added to the game for a limited time, but eventually become permanent additions after some time has elapsed.
Such is the case withSuper Smash Bros. UltimateSpirits fromPokemon Scarlet and Violet. They previously came to the game in Februrary for a limited period, and are now going to be available on a permanent basis thanks to a recent update. FourPokemon Scarlet and VioletSpirits will be permanent: Support Spirit Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly, and Primary Spirits Koraidon and Miraidon, Ogerpon, and Terapagos. ThePokemon Scarlet and Violetstarters boost Critical Health Stats, Koraidon and Miraidon provide Speed Up, Ogerpon gives Item Throw Up, and Terapagos provides Weight Up.
Smash’s Update Cycles and Continual Additions
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s main series of updates has come to an end, but the game still receives new Spirits on occasion. Back in March,Super Smash Bros. Ultimateadded Mario and Peach Spirits. This helps to keep players involved and the title interesting, even though the majority of its changes have come to an end. This kind of continuing content is also shared by games likePokemon Scarlet and Violet, which frequently offers new Mystery Gift Codes, Tera Raids, and other things for players to stay involved in even though the game isn’t receiving any more major DLC or expansions.
It remains to be seen if Nintendo keeps this up forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. However,Super Smash Bros. Ultimatehas sold incredibly well for the company, and it’s the onlySmashtitle on the Nintendo Switch. With the Switch 2 potentially having backward compatibility, it’s possible thatSmash Ultimatewill remain the most recent entry in the series for quite some time. While the chances are slim, it could even see a future revival akin toMario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Pass, which brought over stages from older games andMario Kart Tourand a small selection of new racers. In lieu of that, though, more Spirits could be arriving in the future alongside other major Nintendo releases likeMetroid Prime 4:BeyondandZelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
