Ranga Direwolf

Ranga’s Unique Origins

From Dire Wolf To Rimuru’s Companion

Initially, Ranga was but one of many dire wolves and lived a fairly normal life as a magical beast. However, everything changes when his father decides to invade a village of goblins. Ranga wasn’t in support of this, but as his father was the leader of the dire wolves clan at the time, his opinions had little worth. On raiding the goblin village, Ranga and the other dire wolvescame across Rimuru, who killed Ranga’s father. Interestingly, the dire wolf felt neither hatred nor a need for revenge and submitted himself to Rimuru.

From then on,Ranga became a trusted guard of Rimuruand has continued to grow ever since. As fans know, Rimuru is a sucker for names and names every one of his companions. Immediately after Ranga submitted to him, Rimuru named him, and the dire wolf evolved into a tempest wolf, gaining several other abilities in the process.

Ranga’s Evolution Throughout the Series

Key Transformations And Power-Ups

On evolving into a tempest wolf from a dire wolf, one of Ranga’s most recognizable abilities is his ability to hide in people’s shadows and move through shadows. Ranga’s shadow ability is immensely similar to that ofSolo Leveling’s Sung Jin-Woo’s shadow soldiers. After gaining his shadow ability, Ranga began to hide in Rimuru’s shadow, turning it into his primary place of abode. Later on, it was revealed that by staying in Rimuru’s shadow, Ranga was actually siphoning off magicules from Rimuru and absorbing them. Because of this, his evolution to a higher level of species was one of the fastest amongst all of Rimuru’s companions, and soon afterward, Ranga evolved into a tempest star wolf.

As a Tempest Star wolf, Ranga grew to 220 cm from the 135 cm he was as a dire wolf. He grew bigger and stronger and had access to many more skills, such as dark lightning, spatial motion, and many tolerances such as holy-demonic attack resistance, physical attack nullification, abnormal condition nullification, and much more.

Ranga’s Evolution

As fans know, ever since becoming a slime and getting named by Veldora, Rimuru has gotten stronger and fulfills everything one would expect from an OP protagonist. However, unlike in other Isekai series, Rimuru isn’t the only one whogradually becomes overpowered, as even his subordinates do so, as shown by Ranga and many of Rimuru’s subordinates.

The Bond Between Ranga And Rimuru

Showing Loyalty Across Species

Considering Rimuru is the one who killed Ranga’s father, the bond between Rimuru and Ranga is truly extraordinary and shows that their relationship is built on trust and loyalty. While many others would’ve disliked Rimuru for killing a member of their family, Ranga accepted that his father’s death was a result of his own doing and swore his allegiance to Rimuru, showing that he’s ready to die for his liege regardless of the circumstances.

The bond between Rimuru and Ranga shows howthe That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slimeseries portrays Rimuru’s retainers loyalty to him as one of the core themes of the series. Despite being of different species, Rimuru and Ranga are highly loyal to each other and would most definitely pick themselves over others of their species.

As a tempest star wolf, Ranga has not shied away from various battles, whether he’s going up against an ogre or the demon lord Milim Nava herself. During the ‘Attack of the Demon Lord arc’ that saw Milim Nava attack tempest, despite being immensely outclassed by Milim, Ranga and various others put their lives on the line to face Milim and protect Rimuru. Moreover, in other arcs such as ‘The Octogram Soars Arc’ and the ‘Conflict Between Saints and Monsters arc,’Ranga helped fight againstdemon lord Clayman and defeated the Kingdom of Falmuth’s soldiers in a spectacular fashion.

While he isn’t a bloodthirsty tempest wolf, Ranga doesn’t forgive those who attack his master and seeks to exterminate them unless given orders otherwise. Moreover, as at the current events of the web novel and the light novel, Ranga has evolved into a True Demon Lord.

The Importance Of Ranga In The Federation

From Pack Leader To Rimuru’s Right Hand

At this point in the series, Ranga is synonymous to Rimuru’s right-hand man, even if the all-powerful slime is perceived to have multiple right-hand men/women. Many of Rimuru’s subordinates are always in competition to outdo the other, and Ranga is often not left out. As a treasured member of the Jura Tempest Federation, Ranga continues to grow his power so that he can be of more use to his liege.

Interestingly, after evolving, all of Rimuru’s subordinatesdeveloped humanoid forms, except Ranga. It could be that the former dire wolf is unable to do so, or more likely, that he does not wish to do so. This could be because he prefers and would like to continue to be a place for Rimuru to rest while in his slime form. Or to function as a guardian beast and form of transportation for Rimuru Tempest, which in the grand scheme of things only highlights his loyalty to Rimuru.
