Summary
Dragons inCK3 AGOTare arguably the highlight of theGame of Thronesmod forCrusader Kings 3. Thanks toDragon Traits, all of these fiery beasts are completely unique, with different sizes, temperaments, and much more.
While players can hatch new dragons or create their own alongside a custom ruler, nothing beats taking to the skies atop any one of theiconic dragons fromHouse of the Dragonand the surrounding lore. The best dragons inCK3 AGOTare typically the largest, best in combat, or useful in other ways, such as being able to lay many eggs for the future.
7Silverwing
The Perfect Starter Dragon & She Can Lay More Dragon Eggs
If players are looking totame a dragon and become a Dragonrider inCK3 AGOTfor the first time, thenSilverwingin the 106 AC bookmark is one of the best options. Thanks to her Noble Dragon Trait and positive Personality Traits, she is much more accepting of humans and riders, as Ulf found out in Season 2 ofHouse of the Dragon.
As taming is highly dangerous and often unsuccessful for those without the correct bond or blood, Silverwing is perfect for when the chances are slim. If successful, despite her relatively calm demeanor, Silverwing is still a large and powerful dragon. She also has the Fertile trait, which means she will produce more eggs, setting the player up for a dynasty of Dragonriders.
6Sunfyre ‘The Golden’
The Most Beautiful Dragon With The Majestic Trait & Time To Grow
In the Rogue Prince bookmark of 106 AC,Sunfyre ‘the Golden’, who would go on to becomeAegon II’sdragon, is one of the youngest dragons and is currently unclaimed. Due to his unmatched beauty, he bears the Majestic Trait, which provides a Prestige bonus to his rider.
During times of peace, this makes Sunfyre one of the best dragons to own, and at just 18 years of age in 106 AC, peace also gives Sunfyre plenty of time to grow to the size of his ancestors. Thanks to the Noble Dragon Education Trait, which is the best a dragon can have, would-be-riders will have a decent shot at taming Sunfyre.
5Meleys ‘The Red Queen’
The Swift Trait Makes Meleys Healthier & More Effective In Combat
AsMeleys ‘the Red Queen’already has riders in both start dates, players will have to wait until one of the two princesses dies as neither are playable characters unless prior heirs die first. With how longCrusader Kingsgames last though, and the epic ages to which dragons can live, this isn’t the biggest of problems.
If players are eventually able to ride Meleys, they will have gotten themselves a large she-dragon who canlay eggs to be hatched. With the Swift Trait, she is also great in times of war. The Trait grants a health boost as well as a 10% increase in Combat Effectiveness. Her Personality Traits make her relatively easy to control.
4Vhagar
Vhagar Is Monstrous In Size & Great In Battle
As any viewer ofHouse of the Dragonknows,Vhagaris not a dragon to be trifled with. Monstrous in size and unpredictable in battle, Vhagar is certainly a dragon that players will want on their side inCK3 AGOT.
Although she doesn’t have any special Traits, her raw stats and Personality Traits, such as Impulsive, make her incredibly dominant in the skies. Vhagar also has the Accepting Trait, which means if either of her riders, Baleon ‘the Brave’ or Laena Velaryon die, she will likely take another rider soon after. Prince Baelon is the father of Viserys and Daemon Targaryen,
3Caraxes ‘The Blood Wyrm’
Caraxes Has The Perfect Traits For Battle
Thanks to almost all of his Traits improving Combat Effectiveness,Caraxes ‘the Blood Wyrm’is easily one of thebest dragons inCK3 AGOT. Even his Spindly Trait has its bonuses, with his slim nature making Caraxes more agile in battle.
The best thing about Caraxes is that players can ride him straight away in both start dates. This is done by playing as Prince Aemon Targaryen, ruler of Dragonstone and heir to the Iron Throne in 82 AC, orPrince Daemon Targaryen in 106 AC.
2Vermithor ‘The Bronze Fury’
A Large & Noble Dragon Fit For A King
Vermithor ‘the Bronze Fury’ is everything one could hope for in a dragon. He is large, while not too old, aggressive in combat, but also regal, and he is the mount of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen, arguably thegreatest ruler in Westeros’ history.
To ride Vermithor, players can take on the role of King Jaehaerys in the 82 AC start date or attempt to claim him in the later bookmark. As Vermithor was killed in the Dance of the Dragon, it would be interesting to see him survive and eventually grow to the size of Vhagar.
1Balerion The Black Dread
The Biggest Dragon In Westeros History
Even thoughBalerionis incredibly old by the 82 AC start date and might not live for much longer, it would be disrespectful to not put ‘the Black Dread’at the top ofCK3 AGOT’sbest dragons list. His size is unmatched thanks to his age and the Tyrannic Leviathon Trait, and a dragon’s size impacts their Combat Effectiveness.
The Calculating Trait is also top tier, providing multiple positives with no downsides. In the 82 AC start date, Balerion ‘the Black Dread’ is currently unclaimed as Viserys Targaryen is still a boy. He is certainly the biggest prize, and whoever claims him will instantly become a great power in Westeros,no matter how minor their House is.
