Summary

Clash of Clansis a popularmobile strategy gamethat gives players the tools to train powerful armies to crush enemy bases. Key to this areSiege Machines, units which carry Clan Castle troops and are not affected by spells. They are unlocked through the Siege Workshop and can be upgraded in the Laboratory for elixir.Whether busting through walls, flying over them, or flinging flames, Siege Machines are a crucial part of an attack.

The Workshop is unlocked at Town Hall 12, allowing players to train Siege Machines. However, from Clan Castle level 6, which is available at Town Hall 10, players can be donated any of the seven Siege Machines by clan mates, providing new ways to carry Clan Castle Troops. These troops are dropped by the Siege Machine once it is destroyed, opening newstrategiesfor players.

Wall Wrecker on grass next to a display of its statistics in Clash of Clans

7Wall Wrecker

Smashes Through Everything On Its Way To The Town Hall

TheWall Wreckeris a high hitpoint machine that heads straight for the Town Hall, wrecking everything in its way, especially walls. It’s great at soaking up damage and providing a route into the core of a base which troops behind it can follow. However, it can get stuck on high hitpoint buildings such as resource storages, which will halt its progress, so supporting it is key.

Upon reaching the Town Hall, the Wall Wrecker breaks apart and deploys the Clan Castle troops inside, so having high damage troops such asYetis, P.E.K.K.As, or Balloonsstowed away is great to maximize its destructive capabilities. The Wall Wrecker is excellent between Town Hall 10–12, and it has a place at higher Town Halls, but with the introduction of other Siege Machines, its power has been lessened.

6Stone Slammer

A Big Boulder Dropping Balloon

TheStone Slammer is a wrecking machine that makes quick work of defenses, particularly if they’re clumped together, by dropping boulders from above. It does 25x damage to walls too, so anyone in its radius is crushed, allowing access into the base for ground troops. However, the Stone Slammer is almost always used to aid air attacks. Whether it’s Electro Dragon spam or LavaLoon, it can take out chunks of the base on its own.

When the Stone Slammer goes down, it deploys the Clan Castle troops inside, providing an easy way to get high-damage troops into the base, such as Balloons orDragons. When compared to other Siege Machines, it doesn’t offer as much overall and isn’t widely used at higher Town Hall levels.

A Barbarian jumping from the Battle Drill while a Goblin watches on next to a display of its statistics in Clash of Clans

5Battle Drill

Burrows, Stuns, Destroys

Like a Miner, theBattle Drilldigs underground, bypassing walls, and pops up next to its target. It targets defenses and briefly stuns them when it surfaces, stopping them from attacking for a short time and giving itself an opportunity to take out the defense before it starts to fight back. However, its low damage per second means it takes a while to destroy key defenses like Inferno Towers, Scattershots, and Monoliths.

The Battle Drill is best used in a Queen Charge Hybrid strategy alongside the Miners and Hog Riders, where it can help soak up and stop damage with its stun effect. Filling it with Hog Riders or Miners can make this even more powerful, lending additional troops to the attack once it gets destroyed. Due to its more limited use cases, there are better Siege Machines available.

Siege Barracks containing a Wizard and a Hog Rider next to a display of statistics in Clash of Clans

4Siege Barracks

Releases Additional Troops To Aid In Battle

TheSiege Barracksis an unusual Siege Machine as it offers no function other than periodically spawning additional troops before releasing the Clan Castle troops from within. For this reason,it is incredibly strategy-dependent and becomes significantly stronger at Town Hall 15 and 16, especially whenupgraded to level 5(which spawns a second P.E.K.K.A). This is because of Root Riders, a troop which destroys walls with ease, reducing the need for a Siege Machine that destroys walls and adding more value to the additional P.E.K.K.As and Wizards it provides.

It’s not only in Root Rider attacks where the Siege Barracks shines though. Using it to funnel the Archer Queen into the base in a Queen Charge is another strong tactic. Filling it with fast troops such as Valkyries or Hog Riders, or support troops such as Witches, is ideal, as their delayed deployment means they’ll come out behind the main army.

Log Launcher facing a display of its statistics in Clash of Clans

3Log Launcher

Fires Logs That Flatten Everything Between Them And The Town Hall

TheLog Launcher is a brilliant alternative to the Wall Wrecker, achieving the same purpose of clearing a path to the Town Hall, but much more effectively. The logs it launches roll 20 tiles, damaging everything they hit and doing 4x damage to walls. Unlike the Wall Wrecker, the Log Launcher needs units in front of it to soak up damage to get its full value, but it can still be used in avariety of strategies.

It also has a set time before it breaks apart and deploys the Clan Castle troops, often meaning it won’t reach the Town Hall before deployment. This means that the troops it contains are usually deployed behind the army, giving players more options about what to fill it with. It could be support troops such as Witches or Bowlers, or high-health damage dealers such as Yetis or Electro Titans.

Battle Blimp dropping bombs while a Barbarian and two Skeletons ride on it opposite a display of its statistics in Clash of Clans

2Battle Blimp

Flies Directly To The Town Hall, Dropping Bombs Along The Way

TheBattle Blimpmay deal incredibly low damage per second, butits purpose is to drop troops into the heart of the enemy village. Fill it with Super Archers or Super Wizards, drop a Clone Spell, a Rage Spell, and periodically drop Invisibility Spells, and these troops will destroy massive amounts of key defenses in the core of a base, making the rest of the attack much easier.

However, with the Battle Blimp’s low hitpoints, it can be taken out prematurely by Air Defenses or a well-placed Seeking Air Mine, so protecting the Blimp either with a Lava Hound sent in ahead, or with the Grand Warden’s Eternal Tome ability, is key to success. This strategy is so strong that Clan War base layouts have changed because of it, with Bomb Towers, Spring Traps, and Giant Bombs being placed in the core to destroy the dropped troops before they take anything out. Overall, it’s astrategythat is hard to master, but it’s very effective against a lot of bases.

Flame Flinger catapulting Fire Spirits towards a display of its statistics in Clash of Clans

1Flame Flinger

Flings Flames From Range

TheFlame Flingercatapults fire spirits at defenses, leaving a burning ring that damages over time. With its long-range attack, it outranges most defensesexcept for Mortars, X-Bows, the Monolith, and an activated Eagle Artillery. A well-placed Flame Flinger away from these defenses can single-handedly take out parts of a base, including key defenses such as Inferno Towers, Scattershots, and the Town Hall if its weapon is active (which can be achieved with a single Earthquake Spell).

Base layouts have changed since the Flame Flinger’s release so that each area is protected by a defense that can match or exceed the Flame Flinger’s range. However, this isn’t always the case, and if a base isn’t sufficiently covered, the Flame Flinger can cause massive destruction (just watch out for pesky Hidden Teslas). Once the Flame Flinger times out or is destroyed, filling it with fast troops such as Hog Riders and Valkyries is great as they can quickly join the attack.
