The Crowfeatures Bill Skarsgardin the lead role of Eric, a troubled man who is in a Rehab facility, where he meets a young woman called Shelly (FKA Twigs), who has ended up there after her and her friend, Zadie (Isabella Wei), got involved with some dodgy underworld people, led by a criminal called Vincent (Danny Huston). Elsewhere, Vincent kills Zadie, as his mission in life is to find innocent souls, whom he captures, corrupts, then whispers strange spells in their ears, forcing them to kill themselves in order to keep him alive for centuries as part of a pact he has made with demonic forces.
Eric and Shelly bond while in the facility, and when Vincent’s cronies turn up to take her away, the pair escape and go on the run. They stay at a luxury house that belongs to one of Shelly’s friends, and they become romantically involved. Their romance is short-lived as Vincent’s team catches up with them and suffocates them both to death.
Eric appears in a purgatory type place after his death, where he meets Kronos (Sami Bouajila), a mysterious man who tells Eric that on occasions, when a soul is too burdened by sadness and injustice, it’s too much for a crow to bring the person to their final resting place, and in his case, he must be sent back to right the wrongs of his and Shelly’s deaths. Eric must take revenge on those who killed Shelly, and if he does so, Kronos promises that the tortured lovers will get their lives back.
How does The Crow end?
When Eric returns to the real world, he finds out he can experience pain, but he can’t be killed, as long as his love for Shelly remains pure. Eric brutally kills a corrupt cop on Vincent’s payroll and goes after the rest of the bad guys. He discovers the bad guys have found out where Dorm (Sebastien Orozco) lives, and he goes to see him. After speaking to Dorm, Eric learns about the footage incriminating Vincent, but it turns out, it also shows Shelly’s wrongdoing.
Eric watches the video, and it shows Vincent whispering something in Shelly’s ear, and she then stabs another girl to death. He suspects she acted in cold blood, but in reality, she was put under a spell by Vincent. Eric tells his friend Chance (Jordan Bolger) about what’s gone on, when more of Vincent’s henchman turn up. Chance is shot in the head, and they also attack Eric and shoot him in the stomach, but for some reason, he doesn’t heal and falls into a bathtub, and appears to die.
Basically, because Eric’s love for Shelly is no longer pure because he doubted her, Kronos tells Eric that his Crow powers no longer exist. However, there is another option in order to save Shelly: Eric agrees to give up his soul for Shelly’s, meaning they will never be together again. Kronos agrees and they make a blood pact. Eric’s blood turns black as his eyes bleed, and he truly becomes the Crow.
He returns to the real world, kills the henchman in Chance’s apartment, before heading to a performance of Rubinstein’s “The Demon” at the local opera, as this is where he learns Vincent will be. Armed with a sword, he massacres a string of Vincent’s henchmen. Eric tracks down Marion (Laura Birn), who tells him Vincent isn’t in attendance after all. He kills her, and takes the severed heads of two of his victims and throws them into the audience.
Eric arrives at Vincent’s place. Vincent tries to corrupt Eric, telling him that his spell over Shelly in the video couldn’t have happened if there wasn’t some evil deep inside of her. Vincent is able to whisper a spell in Eric’s ear, and cuts his flesh in order to obtain some of his black blood. Eric breaks the spell, and he sends them both to the purgatory world, where the brutal fight continues. Eric throws Vincent into the ground and the demonic spirits capture his corrupted soul and take him away to hell. The reboot ofThe Crowends with Shelly’s soul rising from hell and the couple have a brief reunion, before Shelly returns to the real world at the exact moment she originally died, without Eric, who had died to save her life. Shelly’s life continues, and she performs her music on stage, while Eric resides in purgatory.
