Summary

Supermanfeatures a lot of interesting DC characters as it befits the first live-action entry in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new and (hopefully) improved DCU. However, one of the most important special guests in the film’s cast is one fans might not recognize.

Supermanhas been one of the most prominent comic book characters in the world for decades, only sharing the pinnacle of popularity with other legendary figures like Batman and Spider-Man. As one of DC’s leading figures, the Man of Steel has seen dozens of attempts at adaptations in all forms, with the live-action depictions offering fans some of the most iconic superhero films and shows in history. Of the few talented actors that have played the role, none is quite as legendary as Christopher Reeve, who headlined what many consider to beeasily the best Superman movie ever made in his debut as the characterin 1978’sSuperman.

David Corenswet was cast as the next Man of Steel by Gunn ahead of the filmmaker’s 2025 rebootSuperman, and whileCorenswet’s casting has received the ever-present initial fan complaints, the upcoming film is paying homage to the one Superman that was never in doubt. As reported byTheWrapin a recent story, one ofSuperman’s scenes features a small appearance by a Metropolis TV news reporter, and Gunn went out of his way to cast a real-life ABC News correspondent to fill the role. The report also highlights the more impressive detail that the ABC reporter chosen was none other than one Will Reeve, son of the late, greatSupermanactor who passed in 2004. Photos of Gunn and Reeve embracing on set also made their way online, with fans taking to the replies to express their admiration for his involvement.

As far as acting goes, playing a character that has the same job you work in real life is a pretty good way to ensure a good performance, and Reeve certainly has the experience to play his part. More than that, his inclusion is representative of a whole lot more than just his career in journalism.Reeve’sSupermanenthralled fans right from the opening sequence, and if this film hopes to launch the DCU with the same sort of fan adoration that the character held back in the day, there’s no better legacy to tap into. Having his son play the part of a reporter in the newSupermanis a great gesture to everyone that loved Reeve, Will included, and shows the heart at the core of Gunn’s approach to the DC Universe.

Fans can look forward to the future with excitement as whileSupermanfeels overloaded, James Gunn has proven he can handle it. Will Reeve’s role is both a stellar homage to times past and solid casting for his modest but interesting role in a project that could learn a lot from his father’s early work. How wellSupermanlives up to the name when it releases in 2025 remains to be seen, but there’s certainly proof that fans can be optimistic.

Supermanis currently set for theatrical release on July 02, 2025.
