Summary

Maxis has released a new update for the base game ofThe Sims 4that adds a lot of new features for customization and interactions between Sims. These changes to the base game come just ahead of the launch of the latest paid expansion forThe Sims 4, titledLovestruck.

Lovestrucklaunches on July 25and is full of new features. As the title of the expansion implies, they’re all centered around the themes of love, romance, and the nuances of relationships. These changes to the game include a new system that determines the chemistry between Sims, a romance career line, an in-game dating app, and a relationship satisfaction system that sorts each relationship into one of four categories based on how couples and others interact with one another.

While Lovestruck will make big changes to the way Sims interact romantically, the new update implemented on July 23 allows free-to-play players to experience some romantic changes of their own. Surprisingly, this includes one of the most highly anticipatednew features planned forThe Sims 4: Lovestruck.Lovestruckhad been set to introduce polyamory to the game, which is usually very difficult to pull off without mods, as Sims are prone to jealousy and will typically suffer relationship point losses and long-lasting negative moodlets when they see their partners interacting romantically with someone else. The new free update, however, lets players manage each Sim’s jealousy, deciding whether they are bothered by their partners participating in non-physical romantic gestures like flirting, physical gestures like kissing, or even WooHooing.

Those aren’t the only new changes to howromance and dating work inThe Sims 4base game. Sims can now be set as partners upon creation, meaning players won’t have to build their relationship levels up after starting the game. The language used for defining relationships has all been set to gender-neutral terms, such as spouse replacing husband or wife and partner replacing boyfriend or girlfriend. Additionally, players are now able to declutter their relationship screens by hiding individual sims from appearing in the list.

But romance isn’t the only aspect ofThe Sims 4’s base game that’s getting a makeover. In addition to a slew of bug fixes across the game and its numerous expansions, Create-A-Sim is getting some new features, including a separate category of eyelashes, new hairstyles and fingernails, and a button that allows players to add the same hairstyle, clothing item, or makeup look to every outfit without having to place it manually on each outfit. Players will also be able to monitorSims' moods and relationship levelsby hovering over their portraits in the conversation menu and monitor daily relationship changes via Neighborhood Stories.
