Summary
Sega has given fans ofSonic x Shadow Generationsa small teaser of what to expect from the game, including that a level from the infamousSonic The Hedgehog (2006)will be within the game. NicknamedSonic 06, the game is often considered one of the worstSonicgames ever made and a definitive low point for the franchise, so its confirmation inSonic x Shadow Generationshas caught the attention of some fans.
Sonic x Shadow Generationsis both a sequel and a remake of the highly popularSonic Generations, a time-hopping adventure that saw Sonic and friends traveling between the most important events and iconic locales of his past. Each level was a nostalgia-packed adventure through some of the most beloved and memorable moments inSonichistory, andSonic x Shadow Generationsis looking to replicate this with its new levels too. One of these levels has some fans surprised though, as it originates from a game that many believed nearly killed theSonicfranchise. Whether it was the myriad of bugs, abhorrent camera work, or the awkward romance subplot with Princess Elise,Sonic 06is universally agreed to be the worst entry of the entire franchise.
As reported by ComicBook, Sega recently released a music track that is set to appear inSonic x Shadows Generations. This track is a remixed version of Kingdom Valley, formerly appearing in the aforementionedSonic 06. InSonic 06, Kingdom Valley was the penultimate level of both Sonic and Silver’s campaigns, standing as a test of all the skills players had accrued up to that point. The music video features Shadow grinding a rail with what appears to be a fire shield amid the backdrop of Kingdom Valley itself. While the game is criticized for a great number of things, one unanimous praise has always been thatthe music ofSonic 06is some of the best in the series, so advertising its involvement inSonic x Shadow Generationswith one of its iconic music tracks is an effective way to get fans interested.
Sonic 06’s Kingdom Valley Will Be Returning in Sonic x Shadow Generations
Sonic 06’s inclusion may come as a surprise to someSonicfans, but in reality, it is not that far-fetched. The originalSonic Generationsalso paid homage toSonic 06in an arguably bigger way with the inclusion of Crisis City, as well asthe semi-prominent role played by Silver the Hedgehogwithin the story, who debuted inSonic 06and featured an entire boss fight running through Crisis City itself inSonic Generations.
WithSonic x ShadowGenerations, Sega has the opportunity to do Kingdom Valley justice, as it did with Crisis City and Silver withSonic Generations. Asgamers are likely never to see a full remaster ofSonic 06, paying homage to it with the later games is likely the closest fans will get.
