Summary
Fans who have played a sequel to a game can know what to expect when compared to its predecessor. However, when a player gets into something new, likeYaoling: Mythical Journey, they may find plenty of terms and mechanics they might not expect at first.
Yaoling: Mythical Journeyis a member of the monster tamer subgenre, like the games from the wildly popularPokemonfranchise. However, it is far from the same experience and paints a very atmospheric and surreal world that can truly captivate the hearts of its players. Here are some tips to help give that experience a great start.
1Manage Sprint & Stealth
Know When To Run And When To Sneak
Players might feel the need to sprint whenever they can to cover the most distance possible, and this is a good option when a player has large fields to traverse. However, whenever a player sees a Yaoling in the overworld, they should be mindful of its size and level. Smaller Yaolings will look at a player, panic, and run while screaming that they surrender — as indicated by a white flag inside a speech bubble. However, Elite Yaolings also inhabit the overworld and will be at a higher level than their weaker counterparts. If they spot a player, they will give chase — and if they catch them, they will be forced into a battle without the element of surprise.
No matterwhich starter Yaoling a player chooses, they should be cautious around heavy-hitting frontliners. Approach enemies from behind so they don’t build up their notice meter, and when it’s time to run, players should have their sprint gauge high so they can get clear of their pursuers. Being noticed on an empty sprint gauge and low health reserves can spell a party wipe.
2Make Use Of Shrines & Statues
Keep SP Topped Up
Most games need agood healing systemof some kind. ForYaoling: Mythical Journey, there will be a pool of SP located in the bottom left corner of the screen. After battles conclude, this will replenish the player’s party of Yaolings to keep them healthy for the fights that lie ahead. Whenever a player goes up to a shrine, they will be able to restore their SP and change their Yaoling party. Players will be making large treks between these shrines, but if they find themselves dangerously low on SP, they can simply fast-travel to any of the shrines they have visited to top up and try again with all the experience they obtained on the first expedition.
Between these shrines will be statues players can rest at. Interacting with these will top up their SP, but not offer the option to change the Yaolings in a player’s party. These statues will replenish the option to rest at them, so players should make use of these statues only when they really need them, and not when they have plenty of SP to spare.
3Prioritize Nearby Villagers
Make A Detour To Get Villagers
Games with thebest base-building mechanicswill know just how important it is to provide special structures that players can make use of. The map will show many points of interest, such as quest markers. Players will also see villager faces on the map. Whenever they are near one of these villagers, they should make a detour to help them out. This will cause them to return to the village where they can offer many benefits. One of the first villagers on players' lists will be obtained by heading south of the village.
This villager will set up a kitchen where players can put their Yaolings to work. This will generate money early on, and provide cooking buffs. By leveling up these additions, they will each offer more benefits than before. Following the main quests will have players pass by Chu-Chu, who will set up a merchant cart at the village.
4Fish At Signs
Players Can Only Fish In Designated Spots
A lot of games like to includefishing minigames with amazing mechanics. The moment the player has some bait with them, they can start fishing. Different baits will have different results. Fishing will help them get plenty of items for Food Buffs, upgrades, and can even result in battles.
Players will know they can fish once they come across a large sign in the shape of a hanging fish. They should always have some bait on hand and cast a couple of lines to see what one of these pools may hold.
5Look For Secrets
Don’t Just Run In A Straight Line, Look Around Corners
Some games doan amazing job of hiding secretsfor players to come across. Players who want to find all the secrets hidden away inYaoling: Mythic Journeyshould always run along the edges to find a nook with some resources — or a hidden chest.
In fact, there are four hidden chests in the starting village that each have some truly incredible items. Check behind houses as well, as these can have stockpiles of upgrade materials. Bushes in large open fields also have hidden chests behind them.
6Always Be Collecting
Get Into The Habit Of Collecting Everything
Resource management done wellcan completely remove the feeling of a game being too grindy. There are plenty of plants that can be plucked, and little critters bouncing around in fields. Players should constantly click whenever they see “collect” to scoop up high amounts of these resources. They can be used in crafting and upgrades.
Players will be burning through resources later in the game, so getting into the habit of this early can save players a ton of hardship in gathering items later. Also, players should check the stoops of houses, as these can twinkle with hidden items. These twinkles will appear throughout the game, even in open fields and bridges — so players should keep an eye out.
7Inspect Yaolings For The Best Stats
Avoid Catching Yaolings With Negative Talents
Yaolings have Talents. These will come in four colors when a player inspects them. Blue is the standard positive effect, purple is better than blue, and yellow will house the best talents around. Finally, some talents offer negative effects. These negative effects can make winning much easier. However, players should avoid catching Yaolings with these negative Talents and attempt to capture the ones with the best.
When a battle starts, players can click on any Yaoling while setting up their formation. This will show all the Yaolings' Talents and Attributes. If they start the battle while a Yaoling is selected, it can make watching them much easier. Then, when this targeted Yaoling is low on health, they can click on a seal to halt time and select it for capture. This is a good strategy in many monster tamer games to get thebest of each type for a party.
