InVictoria 3,the sprawlingeconomic grand strategygame by Paradox Development Studio, a country’s rank is a great way to assess its overall performance in the world. It’s quite literally a world ranking system that ranks every country according to a number of different factors.

So it’s no surprise that increasing a country’s ranking is a big deal for players. It can even determine the likelihood of other nations to accept diplomatic requests or demands, and can determine the types of subject relationships on offer. But increasing the rank can be a daunting and difficult task, so here are some great tips on increasing a country’s rank inVictoria 3.

Form Higher Tier Nation

10Form Higher Tier Nations

Emperors Go First

A small amount of prestige comes from the country’s tier, that is, whether it’s a duchy, a kingdom, an empire etc. The trouble is, a country’s tier is set at the start of the game, and it never changes. It’s an inherent value.

But tier can be increased - with the resulting boosts in prestige - by forming a new country which is of a greater tier. Many countries are able to form new countries either through conquest or a more complex Unification Play, so if it’s possible, it’s often a good idea to do. A good example is forming the Empire of Ethiopia as one of the Ethiopian minors.

Expedition Journal

9Complete Expeditions

Find the Source of Nile

Countries inVictoria 3with enough control of or presence in certain regions of the map have the ability to conduct very expensive expeditions to achieve various aims, such as finding the source of the River Nile, or the location of the South Pole.

These expeditions have a lot of events associated with them, and can reward players with a lot of prestige. This isn’t the best way to increase rank as the ability to successfully complete these expeditions comes later on in the game. But for countries that can manage it, it could be the difference between rank 2 and rank 1.

Suez Canal

8Own Major Canals and Other Monuments

Big Stuff Is Cool, Coolness Is Prestige

Certain places on the map contain impressive monuments which confer prestige to the country that owns them. But in addition to these monuments, it’s possible to construct major canals, such as the Panama Canal or the Suez Canal.

Although these massive constructions cost a lot of construction points to build, the boosts to prestige are also very impressive. Not only that, but these canals can simply be naval transport, making it a very attractive proposition when it comes to moving around a navy.

Romanticism Law

7Improve Certain Technologies

+5% Prestige Is No Joke

Certain technologiesin the Society technology tree provide a direct boost to prestige. These can be a great way to creep up the rankings, although as a percentage increase, they won’t do much for countries with very low prestige.

But in terms of the investment required to activate them, these techs are pretty accessible. Every country produces research points, and more prestige is nice. Especially since these are guaranteed, permanent boosts.

Victoria 3- Best Army Compositions

6Build Up the Army

It’s A Numbers Game

Nations inVictoria 3can climb through the ranks by having a large military. The more men it has in its standing army, the more prestige a nation gains. Even basic armies without much in the way of advanced support provide nice bonuses, so even less advanced nations can make use of a large army.

This is a great way of increasing prestige and rank if the country can afford it, as it also gives unemployed populations something to do, and presents a deterrent to other countries thinking about a quick war or an unreasonable demand.

Navy

5Build up the Navy

The Bigger, The Better

As with the army, the overall numbers of naval units gives a huge boost to a country’s prestige. Some nations can’t build any naval units at all due to technology or being landlocked, but it’s a great idea to get the tech and find a route to the sea for countries that can.

A powerful navy can prevent foreign armies from landing on a country’s shores, and that’s on top of giving a nice boost to prestige.

Upgrade Units

4Have a Technologically Advanced Military

Cannons Are Better Than Arrows

As well as the overall numbers, one major boost to the prestige provided by navies and armies is the overall technological prowess of the force. Nations using more advancedmilitary training, units, and resources receive gigantic boosts to prestige from power projection.

So as long as the nation can afford it, it’s a great idea to upgrade military buildings to use the latest weapons and technologies. Not only does it make the army more effective, it can help a country climb through theVictoria 3ranks as well.

Maintain Subjects

3Gain Subjects

Be The King of Kings

SubjectsinVictoria 3are useful for a whole slew of reasons, from the production they do, the help they can provide in wars, and the bit of management they free the player from having to think about. But they also provide boosts to prestige, both directly and indirectly.

Production from subjects can improve the overlord’s GDP, which increases prestige. But subjects also directly provide prestige depending on their own production and power projection, albeit at a reduced rate compared with a country’s own prestige generation. But every little helps.

Number 1 Producer

2Be The World Leader in Production of a Good

Mine It All

Although just being able to produce certain goods is a nice boost to a country’s ability to produce things, being the world leader (ora world leader:rank two or three count as well) in production goods gives countries a massive boost to their prestige.

Although some goods are more prestigious than others, all goods provide a prestige boost to the countries which produce the most of them, so even countries with a less prestigious good can get in on the action.

gdp

1Increase GDP

More Money, More Status

The total GDP of a country is a massive boost to its prestige, and therefore, its rank inVictoria 3.This is hardly surprising given the strong economic focus inVictoria 3,but it pays off to boost a country’s GDP in so many different ways.

To achieve this, players need toinvest in productive buildingsand industries, export excess products, and utilize advanced and more complex resource chains to boost production and get money moving around the economy.
