Summary
WhenWednesdayseason 1 came out onNetflix, TV fans loved the creepy Hyde Monster, the eerie setting of Nevermore Academy, the characters with special powers, and most of all,Jenna Ortega’s portrayal of Wednesday Addams. After everyone raced through the first season’s 8 episodes, Ortega commented on how she didn’t think her character should be in a love triangle. While many fans agreed with her statement, others took issue with her involvement. Recently,Ortega addressed her commentsand said she could have worded them better.
Now thatOrtega is currently filmingWednesdayseason 2, she’s more involved in the creative process. This could be a positive thing and might result in an even more exciting and layered second season of the hit Netflix show.
Jenna Ortega Is A Producer On Wednesday Season 2 And That’s A Good Thing
In an interview onThe Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,Jenna Ortega talked about being a producer onWednesdayseason 2. According toDigital Spy, she said she enjoyed being part of the creative process and explained:
“It’s been the best. I’ve never really done that on a TV show before and we had talked about it first season. And it’s so nice being a part of these conversations, because I love what I do and I love my job, but I’m able to be a part of the background stuff.”
She continued:
“I get to decide, like, how blue somebody’s gonna be, or where the brains go on the floor, what prosthetics look like. It’s so exciting. It’s so much fun, actually. I’m learning so much. It’s so informative.”
SinceOrtega truly understands her character and knows what makes Wednesday tick and what she wants,Wednesdayseason 2 maybe a more accurate portrayal of thispopular Addams Family character. Both Ortega and fans thought it was odd that Wednesday would have love interests and get caught up instorylines that are typical of YA projects. Fans were left a bit disappointed by some of the character’s actions, and hopefully in the second season, she will embrace her darkness even more. While she does need to bond with the other characters and experience some growth, Wednesday Addams can’t be even a little bit cheerful. There were a few small moments when Wednesday wasn’t quite as dark as she could be.
Ortega’s comments also suggest that she had ideas aboutthe horror aspects ofWednesdayseason 2, which is fun to hear about. While it was cool seeingthe Hyde Monster finally be revealed, it’s hard not to argue that there were moments when the effects looked cheesy instead of scary. Thanks toOrtega’s horror movie backgroundfrom starring inScream(2022), Scream 6,X, and666, she knows what looks creepy and what doesn’t. It makes sense to use her expertise and knowledge. Since she cares a lot about her character and the show in general, she wantsWednesdayto be as good as it can be. The atmosphere of the show is important, and Ortega seems to understand that.
Finally, since Ortega wasn’t happy with the love triangle inWednesdayseason 1, she likely can tell when fans are going to have a negative reaction. While it’s unclear how much input she had on each episode script, she at least has made a few creative choices for the second season, and that can only be a positive thing.

However, while she can’t get into too many details, she has shared how happy she is to revisit this world. In the same interview onThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Ortega also shared thatshe had nerves when she showed up on set to filmWednesdayseason 2. Ortega said:
“I just was, I think, overthinking it. But as soon as you put on the costumes by Colleen Atwood, you get hair and makeup done, and then you take all the expression out of your face, it’s like, ‘Oh, okay. I kind of, I know how to do this. Yeah. Yeah.'”
