One of the hardest fights inElden Ring: Shadow of the ErdtreeisMessmer The Impaler, a mid-game bossthat players have to defeat at the end of Shadow Keep. Once players have gotten rid of the pyromaniac python, they obtain a few rewards.
One of the rewards that players get is called the Remembrance of the Impaler. It can be exchanged with Enia at the Roundtable to get one of two options: The Spear of the Impaler, or Messmer’s Orb.
How To Use Remembrance Of The Impaler In Elden Ring
To use the Remembrance of the Impaler, players need to teleport to the Roundtable. From there, go through the first door to your right to enter the chamber containing Finger Reader Enia. Talk to the aforementioned NPC and select “Receive power from Remembrance.”
Select the Remembrance of the Impaler and choose either the Spear of the Impaler or Messmer’s Orb. If players want to get both of these rewards, they can choose toduplicate the Remembrance from a Walking Mausoleum.
Spear of the Impaler
Weapon of Messmer the Impaler. A greatspear with a warped blade in the shape of undulating flame.
Remade by the forging arts of the realm of shadow, this weapon can be thrown by executing a strong attack, dashing strong attack, or mounted strong attack. Charge the attack to produce flame on impact.
TheSpear of the Impaleris aGreat SpearweaponinShadow of the Erdtree. It deals 85 Physical and 102 Fire damage when not upgraded. Players can upgrade the weapon usingSomber Smithing Stonesto +10. The weapon weighs 9.5. The strong attack of the spear throws it forward, though the range isn’t very far. However, players can charge it to increase the range by around 30-40%, as well as cause an explosion where the spear lands, dealing fire damage along with physical damage.
It has theMessmer’s AssaultAsh of Warwhich imitates the three-part assault that the boss does on the player throughout the fight. First, the player flies up and does a sweeping attack, then you dash forward and make rapid strikes with the spear, and finally, the player slams down into the ground, and summons a bunch of spears to come out and impale anyone in the area.
There are three portions tothe Messmer’s Assault Ash of War. The first attack costs15 FP, and the successive attacks use9 FPeach. The player can stop at the end of each section, but they can also be interrupted by enemy attacks. This Ash of War deals both Fire and Physical damage, and is affected by both the Faith and Dexterity of the player.

Messmer’s Orb
An incantation of Messmer the Impaler.
Summons Messmer’s flame to form a giant floating orb. The orb soars toward a foe, crashes into the earth, and explodes after a brief delay.
Charging enhances potency.
Messmer despised his own fire. Time and time again he hoped to rid himself of it, but ever did it burn.
Messmer’s Orbis afaith-based spellthat has a hefty 60 FAI requirement. The stringent requirement reflects the high amount of damage that players can deal using the spell. In fact, it is the same spell that Messmer himself uses on the player at the start of the fight.
Unfortunately, the player can’t fly quite as high, nor leap as far, when using the spell themselves. The range of the spell is much more limited than it was in the hands of Messmer, but it deals quite a lot of damage nonetheless. The initial leap doesn’t deal much damage, even when it hits the enemy, but the following explosion deals enough damage to justify the high requirements.
Each iteration of the spell costs 31 FP, but this can be brought downusing the appropriate Talismans.

Messmer’s Armor
When talking with Enia, players can get Messmer’s armor by selecting the “Recieve equipment of champions” option. There, they can buy the entirety of Messmer’s Arsenal using a grand total of 45,000 Runes.
Messmer’s Helm gives the player a3% buffwhen using Messmer’s Orb, orany of the Fire Knight spells. However, the armor doesn’t hold much value other than that. It doesn’t look the best, with even theFire Knight Setlooking better thanMessmer’s Set. The stats that the armor gives to the player aren’t anything spectacular either.
