Summary

Pioneered by MMOs likeWorld of Warcraft, and then thrust into the mainstream by games likeFortnite,PUBG, andCall of Duty: Warzone, the live-service model continues to be one of the shakiest double-edged swords in gaming. Whilea successful live-service modelcan keep a game alive and monetized for years, a failed live-service approach can result in a game’s abrupt shutdown. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem likeConcordis part of the former camp.

Released only a week ago,Concord’s player-base has already hit dire lows on PC, and though its performance on PlayStation is unclear, its success probably won’t be enough regardless to offset the player shortage on PC. But despite its initial reception,Concord’s developer Firewalk Studios has already confirmed the next five months of the hero shooter’s post-launch plans, and they’re rather ambitious.

Everything Confirmed For Concord’s Post-Launch Seasons So Far

Everything Announced for Concord Season 1

Set to hit the hero shooter in October of this year,ConcordSeason 1is going to bring a ton of new content to the game. The most exciting new addition of this season will undoubtedly be a new playable Freegunner. ThoughConcord’s 16-strong roster is fairly diverse, its hero count does pale in comparison to some of its competition, and it could definitely use more distinct Freegunners to better stand out from the crowd. A new map will also be a welcome addition in October, as will some new cinematic vignettes that presumably flesh out the Sci-Fi world ofConcorda bit more.

Everything Announced for Concord Season 2

Set to begin in January 2025,ConcordSeason 2 is going to add even more fresh content to Firewalk’s hero shooter. Along with another new playable Freegunner, another new map, some more cinematic vignettes, and everything else listed above,Concord’s second seasonis set to add a new mode to the game. ThoughConcordalready has six enjoyable game modes spread across its three distinct playlists, it would be great to see some more team-based modes inConcord.

Will Concord’s Post-Launch Plans Come to Fruition?

While it’s great to see Firewalk already confirm the next five months ofConcord’s post-launch support, there’s a lot of speculation right now around whetherConcordcan even survive that long. According to SteamDB, at the time of writing,Concordhas just 162 active players on Steam. It wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense for Firewalk and Sony to keep supportingConcordif these numbers only continue to get worse in the coming weeks.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueis the perfect example of this post-launch dedication not panning out how intended.Suicide Squadhas released two seasonsof new content over the last few months that have failed to bring in new players, or retain the player-base. At the time of writing,Suicide Squadhas just 115 active players on Steam. The only wayConcord’s post-launch plans will be worth delivering is if the game can build a larger player-base, and the only way to do that is with some drastic changes.
