Summary
Fans have now waited years for news about aGhost of Tsushimasequel, especially with how the first game left the story of Jin Sakai hanging on a cliff. The Mongol invasion was thwarted bythe end ofGhost of Tsushima, but Jin’s story, specifically, was left hanging in the balance. Unfortunately, despite various claims, there has been no official word from Sucker Punch about whether a sequel toGhost of Tsushimais in development. If a sequel does happen, it’s bound to be quite different from the first, as Jin’s journey of growth and self-discovery has reached a major milestone that can’t be reversed. Once a full-fledged samurai, Jin has adopted the ways of the Ghost — a silent killer who strikes without honor from the shadows.
There has been plenty of speculation surrounding where Jin might go in aGhost of Tsushimasequel, especially given that he is now pursued by the shogun for dishonoring the samurai. Some theories suggest he will be fleeing Tsushima island for mainland Japan, with Kyushu island being a popular pick as the location where the second Mongol invasion took place. While this could potentially change the name of the sequel to something other thanGhost of Tsushima, it doesn’t necessarily need to. In fact, the first game’s Iki Island DLC might provide a hint about how a sequel might be named.
Ghost of Tsushima 2’s Title May Be Hidden in the First Game’s DLC
Jin Will Always Be the Ghost of Tsushima
When it comes tothe title ofGhost of Tsushima’s sequel, one thing to consider is whether it will even share a name with its predecessor.Ghost of Tsushimatakes place on the island of Tsushima, and as it is largely a coming-of-age story for Jin and the birth of the Ghost of Tsushima, the game’s name makes complete sense. However, if a sequel were to see Jin fleeing Tsushima for a different island, there is plenty of potential for a name change. For example, rather than being calledGhost of Tsushima, a sequel that takes place on the island of Kyushu might instead be called “Ghost of Kyushu.” Still, this would be an unnecessary change, as the game is not named after its setting so much as it is named after its protagonist.
Jin Sakaiwill always be the Ghost of Tsushima. Regardless of where he goes or where he ends up, he will retain his title as the Ghost of Tsushima in recognition of his origins. By the end of the first game, it’s likely Jin’s alias has begun reaching the ears of the inhabitants of other islands in Japan, so a sequel would presumably see them referring to him as the “Ghost of Tsushima.” As such, the nextGhost of Tsushimagame will most likely share its predecessor’s name, although it may come with a subtitle to differentiate the two.
Ghost of Tsushima 2 May Follow the Naming Scheme of the First Game’s Iki Island DLC
A little more than a year afterGhost of Tsushima’s release, it received its first DLC, titled “Iki Island.” This DLC sees Jin traveling to Iki Island for a deep dive into his past, as it is the place where his father died. Generally, whenever a game receives a DLC, its full title retains the game’s name, then adds a colon between it and the name of the DLC. This would make the full title forGhost of Tsushima’s DLC,Ghost of Tsushima: Iki Island.
If Jin does travel to adifferent island in aGhost of Tsushimasequel, it could use the same naming style. In other words, if the nextGhost of Tsushimagame takes place on Kyushu Island, it might be called “Ghost of Tsushima: Kyushu Island.” However, that might ultimately make it indistinguishable from a DLC for the first game.
