Summary

It’s no secret thatSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguedidn’t land the way Rocksteady was hoping it would. After opening tolukewarm reviews and a powerfully negative fan reaction, the DC Comics-inspired looter shooter has struggled since its launch earlier this year. There were some hopes that the post-launch content and new playable squad members would spark some interest in the title, but the multiverse variants of the Joker and Mrs. Freeze have yet to move the needle in a meaningful direction.

But there’s one last shining light of hope for fans of theArkhamfranchise. Through various data leaks that have since been thoroughly confirmed with the release of Joker and Mrs. Freeze, the fourth character released forSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewill be a beloved fan favorite from the original series. And since that update is highly likely to be the final one for the game overall, Rocksteady is clearly striving to go out on a high note.

Deathstroke is Coming to the Final Season of Suicide Squad

The proud titleholder of both thebest and worst boss fights in theArkhamfranchise, Deathstroke will almost certainly be the final addition to theSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueroster. Based on the current release cadence of content, it’s likely that Slade will be coming to the game in December, concluding the story of the game and letting Rocksteady finally move on to a hopefully more successful venture.

Slade might just be the best of the DLC characters on offer from Rocksteady. One of the major critiques of the game in general was the Squad’s over reliance on guns, especially with characters who don’t typically use them, like Boomerang and King Shark. Anyone who’s playedArkham Originsknows thatSlade is an accomplished martial artist, but he is also proficient with firearms, which makes him a shoo-in for the running and gunning gameplay loop Rocksteady chose to go with. This creative decision limited the studio’s options for additional characters, because the likes of Black Manta or Cheetah would look silly wielding regular guns, but it’s a perfect fit for the world’s greatest assassin.

Slade will also be one of the few characters returning from the original series. The others (Joker, Mrs. Freeze, Lawless) are shaping up to be either multiverse variants of established characters, or, in Lawless’ case, a character totally original toSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Slade will be the first playable character since Harley that waspresent for the events of the originalArkhamsaga. It’ll be interesting to see what he’s been up to after his embarrassing defeat inBatman: Arkham Knight.

Arkham Batman Will Be Joining Deathstroke in the Final Season of Suicide Squad

It isn’t just Deathstroke that will be bringingArkhamfans back toSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Recent developments in the game’s story indicate thatthe Justice League was never actually killed, and the heroes players killed in the story were clones. The most recent season revealed that the Flash is still alive, with Green Lantern, Superman, and Batman likely to follow in subsequent updates (Unfortunately for Wonder Woman fans, Diana is probably dead for real.)

One of the biggest gripes fans had withSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewas its treatment ofArkhamBatman, one of the most beloved versions of the character. The consensus was that getting shot execution-style on a bench by one of his lesser villains was not the ending many fans wanted to see. This sentiment was compounded by theunfortunate passing of the late great Kevin Conroy, which meant that this game really would be the last anyone saw of that iteration of Batman. As such, bringing Batman back should also be a satisfying moment that leaves fans with slightly less negative feelings on the game’s story.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League announces Lawless as Season 3 playable character

Adding Slade sooner probably should have been a larger priority to try and give the title a second wind, but if the final update brings both Deathstroke and the chance to seeArkhamBatman return one last time, fans might just be compelled to reinstall.
