Summary
World of Warcraftis making some improvements to the Warbands transmog collection process soon, including the ability to learn class-restricted transmogs on any character, and more broad, retroactive gear appearance unlocks when completing quests. These improvements are expected to arrive inWorld of WarcraftduringThe War WithinPatch 10.0.5, currently expected this autumn.
During the beta forThe War Within, players noticed completing quests unlocked the transmog appearances for every type of gear obtainable as a reward, even for armor and weapon types the character couldn’t use. This corroborated information associate game director Morgan Day shared during pre-expansion interviews, which suggested that not only would fans unlock transmogs in this way, but that characters would learn other unearned appearances from previously-completed quests retroactively. However, whenWarbands arrived in theWoW: The War WithinPre-Patch, these functions were nowhere to be found.
Initially,World of Warcraftdeveloper Yryadorne confirmed the transmog unlocking from the beta was an unintended feature, stating it was likely a bug during the development phase. Then, a few days later,Yryadorne edited their post on theWoWforum, linking to a new blog that confirmedWorld of Warcraftwould be turning this apparent bug into a feature after all, along with the ability to freely unlock class-restricted gear transmogs, such as tier sets from legacy raids. These changes are expected to arrive in Patch 11.0.5, a few months afterThe War Withinreleases.
Transmog Unlock Improvements Coming to WoW: The War Within
Previously, characters only unlock quest reward appearances for all items they can equip, regardless of the actual item they choose for the reward. Since there are four types of armor in the game – cloth, leather, mail, and plate – fans would have needed to completealmost every quest inWorld of Warcraftfour times in order to get all the transmogs. With this change, players will only need to do so once – and they won’t have to go back and re-do questlines they’ve already completed to get their appearances.
Needless to say, fans are overjoyed to seeWorld of Warcraftmake this change. Transmog collection is a huge part of the game for tons of players, many of whom were disappointed to learn Blizzard seemingly removed what was an amazing feature for a short while. The fact thatWorld of Warcraftlistened to fan feedbackand made this change after all is a huge win for players and developers alike.
