Summary
World of Warcrafthas confirmed the item level cap for crafted gear in Season 1 ofThe War Within, implying that it won’t lag behind too much compared to fully-upgraded Myth pieces. With the pre-expansion content forThe War Withinnow live, the team at Blizzard Entertainment is slowly setting the stage for the Worldsoul Saga, a three-part chapter that will decide the fate of Azeroth and celebrate the first twenty years of storytelling inWorld of Warcraft.
The War Withinwill releaseon July 04, 2025, and will take players on an underground adventure set on the forgotten continent of Khaz Algar. WhereasDragonflightwas a departure from the overall direction ofShadowlandsandBattle for Azeroth,The War Withincontinues the trend of developing evergreen features (such as Warbands), all the while focusing on the key strengths ofWorld of Warcraft. Crafting will once again play a substantial role inThe War Within, and the item level cap of crafted gear will be set to accommodate the expanded Myth track.
Confirmed by Blizzard Entertainmenton the officialWorld of Warcraftforums, the item level cap for crafted gear inThe War Withinwill be 636, which only sets it three item levels behind a fully-upgraded Myth piece obtained from Nerub’ar Palace. Players who exclusively doMythic Plus dungeons inWorld of Warcraftcan only receive a Myth track item via the Great Vault, and due to expanding the number of Myth track upgrades from 4 to 6, there was a growing concern that crafted gear would become trivial inThe War Within. Thankfully, Blizzard has laid those fears to rest – even if the expanded Myth track does notably lengthen the process of upgrading gear.

Although Blizzard hasn’t shied away frommaking changes toWorld of Warcraftprofessions, the overhaul established inDragonflightwill largely stay the same inThe War Within, apart from removing Inspiration in favor of introducing Concentration.World of Warcraftplayers should expect a fully-upgraded crafted item to fetch a heavy price at the Auction House, as the new Concentration will be a limited resource for crafters.
For the most part,World of Warcraftplayers that enjoyed the endgame experience inDragonflightwill find themselves in a familiar place withThe War Within. Though Blizzard will no doubt look for player feedback during launch, it’s likely that any major changes (if necessary) will come after thefirst raid tier ofThe War Within.
