Summary
World of Warcraft ClassicSeason of Discovery is making two massive realms – one for PvE and one for PvE – in the hopes that all characters will transfer there. Once these Realms are created, players will be able to transfer theirWorld of Warcraftcharacters to these servers for free, and all the original Realms will be closed to new players.
Season of Discovery isWoW Classic’s newest experiment that includes class-altering Rune engravings, reimagined world bosses and raids, and even never-before-seen dungeons. This new take on the original game has been going for a little under a year now, and during that time,WoW ClassicSeason of Discovery has consolidated its servers on more than one occasion.
Now, Blizzard is making another massive change to its Realms as it prepares forthe final phases ofWorld of Warcraft ClassicSeason of Discovery. According to a forum post byWoWdeveloper GarnetHound,World of Warcraft Classicwants to see every Season of Discovery player playing together. To facilitate this, it is creating two new realms in every region, one for PvE and another for PvP, with the intention that players move their characters there. Fans will be able to use the Free Character Transfer service to go to these “Mega-Realms” at no charge, and while they can choose to stay on their original Realm, new players will not be able to make characters on them.
WoW Classic Season of Discovery “Mega-Realms”
While having more players on one’s server is usually a good thing, having every existing Realm disrupted to do so has stirred up some controversy. When transferring Realms, characters must rebuild their friends list, ignore list, and their guilds. They may also be forced to change their character’s name, and could even lose gold if they have too much for their level. Several existingWoW ClassicSeason of Discovery servers have been locked downin the past, so this migration is the second or third that some fans have been forced to do.

There’s no exact timetable for when this change will go into effect, but GarnetHound said it would be “at least a week,” though it could take longer. Hopefully, this massive Realm migration will be the last one fans will have to worry about untilWorld of Warcraft ClassicSeason of Discovery comes to an end.
