During a recentQ&A panel hosted by ComicBook’s Jamie Jirak, the creative team behindX-Men ‘97offered a teaser for the show’s second season. Marvel’s head of animation and producer Brad Winderbaum revealed that, in addition to new characters, Season 2 will introduce two new teams. Though he did not specify which teams, Winderbaum hinted that both will be X-hyphenated teams, sparking fan speculation about their identities.

“There’s many teams, in Marvel, that have the letter “X” that are followed by a hyphen. I would put it to you like this… there’s two other X teams in Season 2.”

While this teaser from the creative team has sparked excitement, it also leaves plenty of room for speculation among fans as to which teams might make their debut in Season 2. However, fans believe they have cracked the mystery.During the recent D23 event, the Marvel Animation panel confirmed that characters like Polaris, Lady Deathstrike, and Sabretooth will appear in the upcoming season ofX-Men ‘97. Drawing from this announcement and their knowledge of the comics, fans have narrowed down their predictions to two potential teams: X-Factor and X-Force. These teams have deep ties to the characters mentioned and may have been subtly hinted at in the previous season.

X-Factor has had a notable presence inthe original animated series, and the reboot has been teasing the team’s future appearance for some time. In the final episode of Season 1, the time-traveler Bishop teams up with Forge, a character who is a key member of X-Factor in the comics, on a mission to locate missing mutants. This episode also features a photo of Forge with other notable heroes like Multiple Man, Polaris, Havok, Wolfsbane, and Strong Guy, which serves both as a tribute to the original team and a potential hint towards future storylines. Additionally, Marvel has confirmed that Polaris will have a significant role in the upcoming season ofX-Men ‘97. Given her integral role in X-Factor within the comics, many fans speculate that she might lead the team in the new season. As for the other team, the end of Season 1 of the seriesmight have also teased their introduction.

Two key members of X-Force were introduced in the season finale: Cable, who officially joined the X-Men, and Sunspot, who left to align himself with Magneto. As Cable and Sunspot are pivotal figures within X-Force, this could suggest that this team could be a significant part of the upcoming season. Moreover, the previously mentioned Lady Deathstrike and Sabretooth are both closely connected to X-Force. They were integral members of the Weapon X-Men, a team that initially included Mystique, Domino, Warpath, and Logan. When Logan and Warpath departed, the group evolved into what is now known as X-Force. While there are various theories aboutwhich teams might make an appearancein Season 2, X-Factor and X-Force currently stand out as the most plausible candidates. However,X-Men ‘97has shown a tendency for surprises, so the final lineup could still be unpredictable.
