Considering how popularSonic Generationswas at launch, it’s really no surprise that Sega is remastering it for modern platforms with some fresh content in tow.Sonic X Shadow Generationsis launching on October 25 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. It features a remaster of the originalSonic Generationsgame but also comes with a slew ofnew levels themed around Shadow the Hedgehog.Sonic the Hedgehogfans are greatly looking forward toSonic X Shadow Generations, but those who are nostalgic for the originalSonic Generationsmay be sad to learn that the game has recently been delisted from the Xbox 360 storefront.
Without warning, the Xbox 360 version ofSonic Generationshas been delisted. While some may assume that this has something to do with theXbox 360 marketplace shutting down, it does not. All other backward-compatible Xbox 360 games remain available to purchase digitally on the latest Xbox consoles. The real reason seems to be the simple fact thatSonic X Shadow Generationsis launching in a couple of months, so it’s likely to effectively erase and take the place of the original game.
Sonic Generations Xbox 360 Version Has Been Delisted
This has yet to happen forSonic Generationson other platforms. Right now, the Steam version of the originalSonic Generationsis still readily available to purchase. However, there is a non-zero chance that it, too, will be pulled from sale and replaced bySonic X Shadow Generationsat some point down the line. Stuff like this has happened with other remasters of older games, with perhaps the most infamous example being when theGTA Trilogyreplaced the original PS2-eraGrand Theft Autogames, as the remastered versions are generally considered to be far inferior to the originals.
Now, it’s possibleSonic X Shadow Generationswill have no added problems and will simply be better-lookingSonic Generationswith extra content, so fans may not miss the original if it’s delisted elsewhere. Regardless, it’s always a bummer to see a game delisted, even if it’s replaced by what is meant to be a superior version.Sonic X Shadow Generationshas looked impressive so far, but time will tell how it stacks up.
