Summary

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomwill bring back familiar faces from across the franchise’s 38-year history, but it will also introduce some new characters. Planned for a release in late September,The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomwill feature series mainstays like Zelda, Link, and Gannon, but an early look at the supporting cast is highlighting some unfamiliar characters from across Hyrule.

Announced in June, the next game in the series will break tradition bynot having Link as the main playable character, instead letting players experience the story from Zelda’s perspective. Armed with the magical Tri-Rod and accompanied by a fairy named Tri, Zelda will be able to move and create objects around the game’s world to help solve puzzles and defeat enemies.

However, Tri won’t be the only new character joining the cast. New information posted on the game’s official Japanese website andTwitter accounthas revealed five other characters Zelda will encounter on her adventure — Impa, Ruberi, The King of Hyrule, Minister Sadari, and General Ugi. There have been multipleversions of Impa inThe Legend of Zeldatimeline, dating back to a character only named in the game manual of the original 1986 title. Other iterations have depicted her as a young bodyguard to the princess and an old nursemaid in need of rescuing. This time around, Impa appears to be older yet again, and she’ll be accompanied by her elder brother Ruberi, who is researching rifts.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom Introduces New Characters

AsEchoes of Wisdomshifts the focus to Hyrule’s princess as the main character, she’ll also likely be dealing with kingdom officials. New posts from the game’s official Twitter account have identified two such individuals, General Ugi and Minister Sadari, who are likely to aid Zelda in military and domestic affairs. Ugi appears about as gruff as the game’s cutesy graphics will allow, and he’s described as being “passionate and filled with a sense of justice,” while Sadari appears much more calm and analytical, with her description listing her qualities as “serious and polite.” Finally,The King of Hyrulereturns, but his role in the game remains a mystery, as he’s only listed as being Zelda’s father and ruler of the Kingdom.

Even though the next game in the series will focus on the princess, it’s not abandoning its longtime main character entirely. Though players will be controlling Zelda through most of the game’s story,Link will still be a playable character inThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, though it’s yet to be seen just how big his role will be.
