Characters inZenless Zone Zeroeach have their ownspecialtythat defines their role in combat.Akin to Paths fromHoYoverse’sprevious game,Honkai: Star Rail, players can think of character specialties as classes from traditional RPGs, which determines the scope of their abilities and power.
There are five specialties inZenless Zone Zero: Attack, Stun, Support, Defense, and Anomaly. While some specialties are currently lacking in numbers, like Defense, HoYoverse is bound to introduce more characters in future updates.
Attack: The Main Damage Dealers
TheAttackspecialty focuses on outputting high amounts of damage in a fight. Characters with this specialty are the primary damage dealers of the team. Each team aims to have at least one Attack specialty to ensure fights end as swiftly as possible.

Support: Enhancing the Team
TheSupportspecialty focuses on enhancing the combat effectiveness of the team through various buffs and debuffs, as well as crowd control. While debuffs on enemies are typically applied universally, some buffs from Support characters are exclusive to units sharing the same Attribute or Faction. This specialty closely resemblesHarmony unitsfromHonkai: Star Rail.
Section 6
Stun: Daze Specialists
TheStunspecialty excels at quickly building upDazemeters on enemies. When a Daze meter is filled, the enemy becomesStunned, rendering them unable to perform any action and causing them to take increased damage from the Agents. Stunning is especially important against bosses in order to bring them down quicker and prevent their deadly attacks.
Cunning Hares
Defense: Protecting the Team
Characters with theDefensespecialty are incredibly tanky and serve to protect the team through utilities like shields and parries. Defense characters are highly resistant against interruptions, allowing them to stand their ground against the deadliest of attacks. Players will find this specialty similar toPreservation unitsfromHonkai: Star Rail.Currently, Ben Bigger is the only Defense unit inZenless Zone Zero, but players can obtain a copy of him for free by progressing through the story.
Belobog Heavy Industries
Anomaly: Masters of the Elements
Anomalyspecialty characters excel at applying their respective Attributes (elements) to enemies, causingAnomaly Buildup, and inflicting debuffs. Accumulation of Anomaly Buildup eventually triggers an Attribute-specific effect. For example, having enough Electric Anomaly Buildup triggers theShockeffect, which interrupts enemies and applies an Electric DoT. While not identical, the Anomaly specialty functions similarly to characters fromGenshin Impactthat specialize inapplying Elements to targetsin order to trigger Elemental Reactions.

Specialties inZenless Zone Zeroplay an important role in creating team compositions and tackling different end-game content. However, like otherHoYoversegames, characters are not strictly confined to their designated roles. Players can still freely choose how to play their characters, such as using Nicole in a damage-dealing role instead of as a support.
